I would too, the Leafs also want to keep Sandin and he's not gonna be cheap. They're gonna have to get rid of some players and downgrade a bit. Rodrigues got 43 points while Kerfoot got 51... not much of a downgrade tbf.
The issue I have with Rodrigues is last year was a career year outlier...... not to say Kerfoot's can be seen the same way. However, Kerfoot in his sample size has shown the ability to be a 40 point guy, Rodrigues 25-30. Signing him to that contract, in my view, ties up money on the 3rd or 4th line (where I think he ends up). Now, at $1.5 million as a high point on a short term deal, yes. Overall, it is more than a slight downgrade..... which Rodrigues would the Leafs get? Not worth the risk.

You are right. Not much of a down grade. Imo, Kerfoot is under rated. Peace.
He absolutely is, and has a legion of haters on CF. He plays a smart two way game. Just because he isn't an 80 point player, he is suddenly garbage without value.
It is safe to say the Leafs won't get market value for in lieu of the cap crunch, but when I see people suggesting he is worth a 3rd (or less) in a proper market, I just shake my head.
At the TDL, Kerfoot could fetch a late 1st or high end 2nd in my opinion. Why? Because he can play defense (despite what people think) and can produce offensively. Better than a 3rd line guy, but not someone I would call top 6 either. But for a team gunning for a Cup, landing a player that can do what Kerfoot can do (think a somewhat downgraded Lehkonen.....as he has the added physical element and better defensive play where Kerfoot is an offensive upgrade), that TDL package will be there.
Having said that, if Kerfoot waives for a non contender with the mindset of getting out of Dodge in March, that team who gives up said third (which is reasonable right now) ends up in a net gain..... or at least should given the Lehkonen deal.
Haters will hate.
