This is a type of move you don’t do. You don’t trade a 20 year old for a 28 year old. This would be worse than the Sens trading Zibanejad for Brassard

Excellent example of a trade that ended up backfiring really badly despite Brassard still playing well in Ottawa

A trade like that works for 2 years and then the younger player is just starting to pop off. And the other is a bottom 6 player 😂

I think the point of the trade is exactly that... a "2 year" cup window where you can't wait for the player to pop-off

I don't see Toews falling to a 3rd pair guy in 2 years but I can certainly see him playing for a different team. Definitely not worth it for LA here, especially when they can probably get the better and younger player in Chychrun for a package around Turcotte

If that were the case , it would be Colorado making that desperation trade. Not a team coming out of the rebuild and making the playoffs 1 year and still developing their youngsters

and where did the Sens finish in 2016/17 when Brassard for Zibanejad took place?

I wouldn’t make it if I were Colorado either. I know Makar can play with anyone but when you’re able to find him a partner he plays thar well with I wouldn’t mess with it

This is a Colorado fan making the trade. Kings absolutely don't do this, you're right.

IF... IF. IF. IF. IF. IF..... IF the Kings were ever interested in a Byfield trade with Colorado, the ONLY player that would be reasonable to ask for and address the Defense (cuz, obviously Makar isn't available) is Bowen Byram. Nobody else would interest the Kings, for a variety of reasons (age, UFA/RFA status, contract, ceiling, etc). And I believe Colorado would need to add, but I'm also biased, so I'd have to see what unbiased fans said about that. Cuz I'm sure Colorado fans would say LA would have to add in a Byfield/Byram swap.

And, for the record, Byfield is an absolute untouchable for me, who I make a franchise icon for two decades.. CF is a place to air out "out-of-the-box" ideas though, which is why I'm entertaining the thought of a Byfield trade. It's the ONLY reason.

Ya'll realize that Toews, Byram and Girard all outscore Byfield as dmen right? I understand wanting to hold onto a prospect with such promise and I think the Kings 100% should. But if a team wants to win a cup, you trade Byfield all day for Toews.

Girard makes more sense for both sides imo should LA go down this route.

Ultimately though I think Byfield isn't far enough into his development for Col for this to make sense for them and I don't think LA fans will be willing to give up on the futures dream they've been preached too for year and accept how much of a win now direction the team has went in

No from both sides.

Well they certainly shouldn't even market Toews, if anything Girard should be the one on the block, and for an established young center with similar value (Bennett comes to mind as an example).

Cant tell if this is a troll? There is no conversation to be had here for the Kings to trade Byfield. A deal like this is not in the realm of possibility.

The issue with trading Girard is that Toews is an UFA in <2 years and will need a big raise. Unless the cap rises a lot by 2023 or 2024 it would be more cost-effective to keep Girard and use Toews to get a 2C, just like they used Barrie as a pending UFA to get Kadri.

Ouff, I don't think so man. Colorado cannot resign Toews and every team knows that. LAK are better off getting a cheaper rental at the TDL and putting their hat in the ring for Toews next off season.
