Description
If contracts get contentious then Vancouver could explore trading Horvat, Newhook could be a really good 3C this year and possibly blossom to be a 2C. Also, depends on this Mackinnon contract. If he does want to be the highest paid player it could force the Avs hand to try to win this year and go all out.

Girard being traded all depends on preliminary talks with Toews to me, if he (rightly so) wants near 10 million per year than he could be possibly be dealt next year and Girard is never dealt.

Signing a couple vets is never a bad option for a team in their SC window.

I haven’t watched many Colorado games so help me out here but i kind of find it concerning Girard was -4 last season when Colorado was 2nd best team in the NHL.

I'm sure I am in the minority of Vancouver fans here when I say I would be open to moving Horvat, and this trade would be very tempting. If I were willing to move Horvat I would prioritize a young top 4 RD, but if one wasn't available and the 1st was in 2023 I would pull the trigger on this one.

+/- has been shown by many analysts to be a mostly useless stat. For example, Ryan Graves led the league in that stat two years ago, and yet he sucks...

Also, Girard played most of the season with Jack Johnson who is great at dragging D partners down.

It’s not a useless stat but I agree it’s not the best to evaluate a player. I would consider this trade if I was rob Blake but idk if I would pursue it. It is a good offer though. Your other colleague who proposed Kaliyev and 2 firsts is laughable

Horvat trade is decent in terms of value. I feel like its a better option to keep Newhook though. Compher, Newhook, Rodriguez, Landy, Rantanen could all play 2nd centre. The team will still be good and Newhook can be resigned. Keeping him and the first is better than losing him then losing Horvat the year after.

G had some lingering back injury and had to take a month off before the playoffs. Looked good after the rest. Healed after broken sternum, as shown by his parade cartwheel. Should be healthy to start the season. However, these injuries take their toll, especially as COL looks to repeat. Hopefully G has a bounce back season.

Replace 2024 first with 2023 first and Zhurav with Behrens and you’ve got a deal
