Description

This trade speeds up a stars rebuild. They have a lot of money tied up in older players. They need those vets to held build young players.

Stars add additional top goalie in the system in Erik Portillo
Set up Ryan Johnson for a more youthful defense
Add an additional nhl experience defender playing great hockey in Pilut
Add two young nhl talents in Olofsson and Mittelstadt. Olofsson's goal scoring ability will help reduce falling off the scoresheet with dallas.

Also receive a 1st and 2nd to help rebuild

This offers a much faster rebuild and with their veteran players to help with development of Casey and Victor. Stars are close to a rebuild and need to build a better prospect pipeline which sabres can offer. Top 10 protected is standard with this. Robertson joins a team on an upward rebuild needing more goal scoring and talent.

There is no way Dallas wants this package. You took our 23 first and top 10 protected it, and then added a bunch of stuff that didn't hurt at all. Olofsson hurts to me, but I think I'm in the minority that really likes him. They are going to want a ton for Robertson, and it's gonna be less quantity and more quality.

And this is why we won't be going after Robertson. Power isn't on the table.

Those are very different situations tho
Robertson is unsigned and the season is very suddenly creeping up. They don’t currently have the cap space to sign him and need to make a decision. As of right now it seems likely a team will offer sheet him if they don’t either trade his rights or sign him

Let me begin, adding Jason would certainly improve the Sabres.
Unfortunately, Buffalo has traveled down this rabbit hole of trading players, picks and prospects for established NHL players, I would pass on this six for one trade just for that reason.

Jason has one 40 goal season in his resume, please explain to me why 18 months younger Jason should be more valuable than DeBrincat who has two such seasons.
The package above is far more than what the Hawks received 7th OA, 2nd and third, Mittelstadt was taken 8th over all, Portillo is a top GK prospect, and a first.
On top of that, a first round LHD Johnson, two time 20 goal LW, and a past winner of the Salming award.
Oh BTW Dallas does not have the cap space to meet his salary requirements.

Stars fans will wail over this, but as a Sabre fan, this is an easy pass.

reason a contract isnt done is because of the owner not him. i think he wants to play there the owner just needs to cave in

The owner should quit his job if he's reluctant to pay Robertson what he's worth. He's literally like top 5 LW in the league after only 2 seasons which is insane

Our owner is like 500 pounds and is the literal definition of “someone who doesn’t know sports”. He’s there for the money and only the money.

By right he shouldn’t be there, and if he is, he should just stfu.
