Hard pass. Don't see any point or reason this is costing Edmonton a first round pick....

The only reason I see it is it dumps term off of Barrie’s contract of one more year. Based on the cap dump deals of late this could be fair.

Barries contract isnt even overpriced for what he provides... He's going to have plenty of value next offseason if Holland chooses to move.

The problem with this is that both players stink on D and are very similar. Is it worth the cap relief of 1 million now and 4.5 in 2023 offseason? Dickinson was dumped with a 2nd into what translates into 1.3 million in cap. Montreal got a page long protected first, I think this falls in between the two of these examples somewhere.

Ducks take that trade I will personally start the fire Verbeek movement. Barrie is awful. He’s a PP specialist for 4.5M.

Barrie and Klingberg aren’t even close to similar. Klingberg was one of the best offensive Dmen last season at 5v5 and on the PP. Barrie was awful both offensively and defensively 5v5. He’s a PP specialist.

It’s wild to me that people still think Barrie is good. Man’s horrible at anything other than 5v4 hockey. One of the most consistently overrated players I see on this site

So for the low, low price of a first-round draft pick that will probably be in the 29 - 32 range, we get to pay more for Klingberg plus the retention plus Barrie than we would for Klingberg alone (no matter when the trade occurs), we get the lesser player, and we incur the burden of paying Barrie $5 million to be even worse next season while giving up any chance to re-sign Klingberg? What a deal!

Idk I see the comments and heavily disagree with many of them. Unfortunately it doesn't seem to matter what Barrie does his reputation can't seem to get repaired from his brief stint in Toronto. It's ridiculous in my opinion. I can say very confidently following Edmonton very closely that the organization doesn't share the same opinions of Barrie as seen on this site.

Barrie has only posted a positive GF% Rel in 8 of the past 9 seasons, putting the lie to your ill informed narrative. Klingberg has posted a negative GF% Rel in each of the past 3 seasons.

Here are both players 5v5 scoring rates for the past 3 seasons combined:
Barrie: 0.22 G/60 + 0.94 A/60 = 1.16 P/60
Klingberg: 0.18 G/60 + 0.74 A/60 = 0.92 P/60

Why would Edmonton pay a 1st to save $1M when they don't get a player upgrade and lose a year of term? That's what makes no sense here.

Barrie >= Klingberg, especially given his contract.

The Statistics don't support claims he is "Terrible Defensively or 5on5", he's underrated and plays very well with Kulak.

This Trade doesn't make sense for EDM

The analytics do support the “Barrie is awful” claim and the “Klingberg is way better” claim. And it’s not close.

Problem is just because you say so, doesn't make it true. At least @CD282 took the time to gather & share the actual stats.

Where is your Proof, Verification or Evidence!? Show your work! Barrie excels as an Offensive D-Man, but he isn't near as bad Defensively as many claim or would like to believe, it's just not his forte

Can’t post pic from a phone. Also I’m not just saying so, many people are saying the same thing.

Barrie’s EV offense over the last 3 years is in the 18%. Klingberg’s is in the 89%. They’re both poor defensively at 5v5. And they’re both good on the PP.

I mean, use your head. Barrie is literally 25th in the league for even strength scoring among defensemen over the past 3 years, as per nhl.com. Klingberg is 50th.

18%? 89%? Those numbers make zero sense.

Primary points at 5v5, G and A1, it’s 36 to 33 for Barrie. A lot of his points were secondary assists.

Also just because you don’t understand jfresh’ scars doesn’t make it not make sense. His main cards don’t show the micro stats that make those numbers. Klingberg creates more high danger chances than Barrie. Barrie is just on the ice when Mcdavid-Draisaitl or Matthews create chances.

Doesn't compute. Here are the real numbers courtesy naturalstattrick.com, based on 5v5 play over the past 3 years combined: NST
Barrie had more shots, more goals, more iCF, more iFF, more ixG, more iSCF and more iHDCF than Klingberg. So nothing you wrote in any way justified the 18% and 89% numbers. Jfresh is so far out to lunch it's hilarious, yet you take him for gospel. Also hilarious.

Barrie is worse than Klingberg lol sorry to break it to you. Sorry you think the only stats that matter are how often a Dman can flip the puck at the net.

Hey, you were the one that brought it up. But I can see that your narrative has run dry, so I think we're done here.
