TBH neither team does this, even though the value is there the Habs need RD not LD so Poirier isn't someone the Habs would want back and Calgary just paid to get rid if Monahan no way they pay to take him back too.

Other than the obvious fact that would be the dumbest move Calgary would have ever made, it's also illegal. Can't trade a player and then trade for that player with retained salary within a one year period of the contract.
