Accelerated Rebuild In Overdrive

Created by: jonh514
Team: 2022-23 Montreal Canadiens
Initial Creation Date: Oct. 23, 2022
Published: Oct. 23, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Lots of Canucks fans yelling to trade everyone... But none of them are trading the "crown jewel" EP.

Would the Canucks consider something like this?
Trades
VAN
  1. Dadonov, Evgeni ($2,500,000 retained)
  2. Dvorak, Christian
  3. 2023 1st round pick (FLA)
  4. 2023 1st round pick (MTL)
  5. 2025 1st round pick (CGY)
Additional Details:
Dvorak is an alright center for a rebuilding team. Not gonna make you win unnecessarily, but will keep you from getting embarrassed.
Dadonov is a 1 year cap dump to make the salary work.
2023 picks are both unprotected and the Canucks would bank on the Habs Still being bad this year

I can't, the cap needs to make sense. But these cap moves are not painful if the cap goes up 4M in the offseason. Dadonov comes off the books and Dvorak's salary is basically covered.

I agree. But I'm saying it's not a rebuild if you trade away the players you don't want and keep the best ones. It's a retool at best.

This would give you a realistic shot at one of the top 5 centers in this draft, all of whom are believed to be better than Suzuki or Pettersson.

Of course I've seen too many drafts to believe it.

That’s pretty horrid logic.

Vancouver is not THIS bad. Typically results like this over 20 games would point to a coach who's message is no longer well received or factions of players fighting in the room.

Fire the coach or trade the ringleader before you go down the rebuild route

Kent Hughes isn't potentially giving up Connor Bedard, No way Montreal is moving this years 2023 1st round pick.

Thinking that Dvorak and Dadonov have any value. Start with Suzuki+Caufield and the Florida 2023 1st round pick for starters for Pettey.

There are three untouchables on the Canucks Pettersson, Hughes, and Podkolzin. The Canucks could win 5 games this season you still aren't getting him.

Better off keeping our pick. Leo could be as good as Petterson and we would keep the players and the other 2 picks

Sorry but neither Montreal or Vancouver makes this deal. Montreal needs both of those lottery picks to get better long term. Petterson is great but doesn't play RD and is not a franchise player (both of which we need more than another Suzuki level center)

If the Canucks were to blow it up, i doubt they'd trade Petey unless the package coming back was a massive overpay

You won the rare award of proposing a trade that makes zero sense for both teams.

That's what this is. 3 firsts and a player that would bring back a 2nd and a 2.5M one year cap dump.

Bold to call a 2025 pick a lottery pick since it’s a couple years out

Dvorak being the best player coming back in a Petey trade is a non-starter

Sorry I mean most valued player, I just feel there would need to be some sort of quality prospects instead of just picks cause who knows those picks could be at the end of the first. The value is prob good - as much as I'd hate to trade Petey cause he's the only skater on the Canucks who actually plays a 60-minute game rn

I never said the 2025 pick was a lottery pick. I was referring to the 2023 Habs pick and the 2023 Panthers picks as being lottery picks. Maybe I should have said 2 potential lottery picks to be clearer. By trading those 2 picks you are potentially trading 2 shots at Bedard or potentially Bedard and Allen or Fantilli and Allen or 2 other top 15 prospects one of which could be equal to or better than Petterson. Thinking about this trade actually makes me think that Vancouver would actually jump at that offer. Think about it this way, If you were say Chicago would you offer both your 2023 picks for Suzuki, knowing Tampa is struggling and may miss the playoffs and the Hawks are likely to miss as well. Montreal would be all over that, potentially 4 shots at Bedard, Vancouver would only get 3 shots, their pick and both of the Habs picks
