As a nucks fan Im not offended or anything but I think we can do better. Even without Johnson in there I'd be expecting better. And part of that might just be fit, we want d prospects more than anything. And a higher 1st.

I think EJ would be sticking around, they will have to fit Horvat a different way (retention and moving Compher for this year), especially if they are looking to resign him. EJ basically just represents MacKinnon's extension dollars (save ~900k) in my eyes, and perhaps they bring him back on league min.

avs wont be trading away assets for a pure rental, that is not how they operate
and that is an overpayment for Horvat, easy decline

Lmao, what? This is literally the Avs #1 defensive prospect, #1 forward prospect, 2023 1st, and Erik Johnson (who would easily be top 4 in Vancouver).

This is an ABSURD overpay for Horvat and you’re still saying it’s not enough.

Using it as a base? You're freebasing something if you think that is a starting point.

If the cap goes up to 86.5m, I still don't know if a Borvat extention can fit for the Avs.

This is coming with a Horvat extention under $5m I assume, because if not, this is a horrid overpay

Behrens is a LD so that isn't the best for the Canucks. Thing is neither Behrens nor Olausson are projecting to be more than bottom half of the lineup players. I know you'll argue against it, we all love our own prospects. It's a classic three nickels for a dollar type deal. We also don't want EJ, he might be totally fine but if we are trading Horvat we aren't hoping to get a overpaid vet on an expiring deal. He represent negative value in the trade to the Canucks.

Let me try and give you a similar type deal in the opposite vein to see if you can see my POV. Lets say last yr the Canucks are gonna make the playoffs somehow and Avs arent and we trade Danila Klimovich, Joni Jurmo, 29th pick and a cap dump of Loui Eriksson for Kadri. That's the type of value we are talking about.

As I said it's not horrible but I'd much rather 1 or 2 of higher value and of more specific need.

I see your point, but I don’t think it’s quite that simple. The equivalent trade would be replacing Joni Jurmo with Rathbone and making Eriksson a useful NHL player. And I think it’s pretty easy to argue that Kadri > Horvat when you’re talking pure rental.

For the Avs, this basically represents the three best futures they have in their entire pipeline and a decent (albeit overpaid) NHL defenseman. For like, 20 games of a 2C they can’t afford to re-sign. Of course fans overvalue their prospects, but this is an insane return. One that would instantly get declined by an NHL GM.

Yup fair. So would you do Rathbone, Klimovich and 28th pick for Kadri? As I say EJ is dead weight. Canucks don't want him. The reason he is in the trade is to get rid of his cap hit. If not then just take him out.

Anyway just because they are the best prospects on your team doesn't really mean anything to their value. Their value is their value to another team.

The trade would maybe be acceptable if nothing better came in but if Im the Canucks I'm targeting more specific needs and a higher pick. Thinking more like a 20th pick and a RD prospect who's NHL ready.
