Still can't believe Garland for Marino didn't happen in the offseason.

I think Canucks want to move a forward for a young, controllable RD.

boeser hasn't been great but we all know he has a 30 goal season in him waiting to happen. Those three pieces won't be anything on the canucks, we already have too many forwards. Only piece we would've traded for is Marino but that's passed.

I feel like there may have been a high asking price coming from Vancouvers side. Thinking about it now LA wanted Garland or Boeser last season and what the asking price from Vancouver was Brock Faber and a 1st for either Garland or Boeser. LA declined and look at what a 1st and Faber got them. It got them Fiala. So as much as it sounds, I think Boeser and Garland have always been very overvalued by Canucks management and Canucks fans. If a trade that got us a RHD were to happen it should’ve already happened. Vancouvers asking price may just be too high for other teams.

I don't blame them for having a high asking price, but at some point landing a RHD means more than landing one in a good deal. Marino was such a perfect target for the team given his age, contract and playstyle and history with JR that overpaying in a trade would still be a net positive for the organization.

I would have easily done a Garland for Marino trade if it was on the table since apparently the Penguins were looking for wingers in the summer. They likely knew that they were going to re-sign Rust and Rakell, which is why Garland didn't interest them, which is fair. However, apparently the Penguins asked for Rathbone and a 2nd for Marino, which is similar to the deal they ended up getting in Smith + 3rd. I know the market and fanbase would have gone ballistic over moving another 2nd and a young player, but again Marino was a perfect fit. I would have made that move.

What is Vancouver supposed to do with 3 new forwards? They will have to lose 2 other players off their roster to be compliant

Boeser would cost a good defenseman not a bunch of 4th liners

This doesn't make the Canucks better in any way so I don't see why they would accept

It was too obvious and would have been beneficial for both teams so of course Hextall wasn't going to do it.

Where do you get these detailed rumours from? Honestly I never hear them, none of the main reporters ever report that kind of stuff but there is always someone saying "reports were that the trade was this for this". Where do you read this?

Yeah for boeser it would be a kapanen, 1st round pick, and Pickering type trade and that doesn’t make sense for PIT

The Canucks really should’ve. Especially since Pittsburgh was looking to just dump Marino like that for in my opinion really low value.

Usually people from sportsnet or TSN. There’s always insiders to these kind of things. It isn’t that hard to find these sources.

Literally never heard anyone on sportsnet or tsn speculate as to the exact players a team was asking for in a deal. Can you share one?

The asking price from Pittsburgh was Rathbone and a second according to this source and a few other that I know of. Really isn’t that hard to find them.
