Savard isn't an NHL level defender anymore though - he's a turnstile. That's a terrible trade for Edmonton.

PJ could be a bust and/or a cap dump... blah blah blah. but he still could be really good in the right situation. I think you could come pretty close to getting Domi with a 2nd alone. So, I say CHI accepts this, gambles on PJ AND gets a 2nd round pick as well.

Barrie is only +3 with 10pts on Edmonton, while Savard is only -2 with just 5pts on Montreal. I disagree, i watch a fair amount of habs games and hes definitely better then Barrie defensively. And i like the 1 mil savings for next season. God knows we're going to need every penny

Right? It's about utilization. If EDM tried to use Barrie in as many defensive situations as MTL uses Savard, he probably wouldn't have as many points and he would not be a positive player in plus/minus.

Among 160 defensemen who have played at least 1500 minutes at 5v5 over the past 2+ seasons, Savard ranks #160 (dead last) is CA/60 Rel and #156 in GA/60 Rel. Defensive Zone Starts/60: #80. For GF% Rel, Barrie is 25th of 160 while Savard is 158 of 160.

So you're wrong. Savard is a black hole offensively and posting terrible numbers defensively and isn't getting buried in defensive assignments as you claim.
