Sorry meant Ottawa not sure why I typed Arizona

And that’s just wrong, 12m+ in salary is committed to chuchyrn the next 2 years. Zaitsev is only 4.5m in salary

The way I see it, and perhaps Sens management and ownership suitors, is that Zaitsev is a unwanted salary on the books. To me it would seem like Chychrun being young and signed for the next two years at a reasonable cap hit promote a nicer picture especially with a lot lf the D-core needing new contracts. They don't need to get Chychrun specifically though, and with the high ask they might not unless they get to dump Zaitsev for free.

They don’t care about the players, it’s dollar values that they care about. The product on the players on the ice doesn’t impact the negotiation of the sale and purchase of a team, changing the money a group has to commit to before the buy the team does. That’s why they don’t want too add signicant salary,

If you account for the extra year, it really just an additional 2.9m. They are still in the early stages and have several suitors, I don't think an additional 2.9m or even 7.4m is going to make a difference right now. Chances are the sale happens in the offseason anyways, when there's more certainty about what the total player salaries are going to be in the first place.

While they won't care about a single player perhaps, the teams performance does matter since that's going to affect generated revenue.

they care about an additional 8m of salary committed to their payroll of a team that they are about to buy that they didnt authorize. It's not an extra 2.9m Its 8. One is owned 12.4m over the next 2 years, one is owed 4.4m.

you need to separate the players and on the ice, this is a business transaction, they dont care about whats going on the ice.
this isnt my opinion this has literally been reported by every insider who has touched on the potential deal. You cant rationalize this with on ice play. Full stop

Arizona won’t be making any moves that impacts their financial commitments before the sale of the team is complete

I see you fixed your mistake when talking about the team up for sale. All good.

I haven't been keeping up with the situation, didn't realize that official bids from select suitors were being considered already.

That 2023 1st is a very high value commodity. Even top 5 protected. You won’t better that from any other team.

I don’t think Ottawa is that bad, this is buying high on a 1st, and selling low on chychrun. It just doesn’t fit the ask

Am I the only one who is hesitant trading for Chychrun with his injury history and Zona's asking price???

This season is already a wash, play it out and see what becomes available in the offseason. Sign Kleven when his season is done and give him a look. Prioritize signing Zub and take a shot at a UFA, there's a decent crop of UFA D coming up. Guys like Soucy, Severson, Dumba, Graves, Mayfield would all be decent fits, some more than others.

I really don't like those lines, should be :

Tkachuk - Stutzle - Giroux
DeBrincat - Pinto - Batherson
Ritchie - Brassard- Joseph
Motte - Kastelic - Watson
Kelly

Chabot - Chychrun
Sanderson - Hamonic
Brannstrom - Zub
Holden

That package is a little bit too much for my liking too

Even if Top-5 protected, that pick is very valuable as they dug themselves in a hole already

Problem with Tyler Boucher is that he really don't have the same value as his draft position, they took a BIG gamble on him and have to follow through. No team should give more than 2nd/3rd round pick value for him so no point to trade him

Tyler Kleven is a guy I don't want to trade. He's the only D-man we had in a long time with an intimidating factor (since Volchenkov?)

Package should be :

Zaitsev, Nikita
Jarventie, Roby (better prospect than both Boucher and Kleven)
2024 1st round pick (OTT) (Top-10 protected).
2023 2nd round pick (OTT)

Two 1sts and a 2nd is enough for an injury prone D-man with only 2 years left before UFA

Zaitsev is of not much incidence for the Coyotes. He has less than 7 M$ owed and is a cheap buyout next summer. He's just there for cap reasons for the Yotes

Still think it’s reaaonable Ottawa makes moves. Why else is Dorian calling every team he can to find a Dman.

Dear Alfie, I hope Dorion is not allowed to make any other decision. He has done way too much damage already and has lowered the potential success of this rebuild a lot already. It's not too late but the team needs to get sold ASAP

Boucher is worth a 2nd now, at best. Not even a PPG in his D+2 in the ohl

That's absolute value for teams who believe in him and like his game style. I'd say he's worth a 3rd at best

No, it's not. Arizona has the worse travel schedule in the league...by far, Belleville even by bus might be better.
Sens are going to miss the playoffs this year, so you've only acquired 2 years of Chychrun. Hardly worth trading a lottery pick in a stacked draft and more.

No brainer.

Quoting: coga16
you are overlooking salary, committed actual money. Ottawa isnt adding 12.4m in committed salary to their books vs 4.5m next year.
finical commitments beyond this year impact the sale, all the insiders has said that when a team is for sale they want to freeze all the financial commitments until a deal is finalized

If not moved, Zaitsev is an easy buyout next summer with a 1.67 $ cost spread over 2 years. It's the exact same situation as Del Zotto last season, who got bought out. One of the last Dorion (costly) mistakes to repair.
