Created by: sharcuda22
Team: 2023-24 San Jose Sharks
Initial Creation Date: Dec. 5, 2022
Published: Dec. 5, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Would the sharks commit to a long-term rebuild and retain big on guys like couture and karlsson in return for huge asks from competing teams?

Note: I rlly have no idea what the value of these guys are with 8 mil + in retention and im certain ive over valued them.

Also before the one homie from the Devils ACGM I know u think Meier = holtz and maybe he does but I have elected to choose this route anyway so I don't lose all hope for this team lmao

This trade makes no sense for both San Jose and Ottawa.

The $29 million retention will kill the Sharks and Ottawa will be left with awful center depth.

Dead cap don't matter for a rebuilding team committed to a long rebuild. I think Ottawa could find another good center.... but there is no way they are ever trading Norris

I like the sound of that CBJ trade. Just need to find a buyer for Bean and he'd fit right in...

I think this is too much for Meier and extremely unlikely as it has absolutely no historical precedence.

But the Devils are such a wagon im not even sure I'd care at this point.

Mike Grier isn't eating nearly $29,000,000 on EK65 for the next 5 years, And no way is Ottawa trading Josh Norris right after just extending him.

EK65 has a NMC.

Ottawa's current GM is the same guy who traded Karlsson out of town 4 years ago.

Try again.

You're not getting that much for Couture from any team

maybe not :/. My thought process was he's on pace for 70 points and hasn't played with 2nd line caliber wingers in years + his history of being an absolute monster in the playoffs + 8mil of retention would up his value to a team that hasn't been in the playoffs for a while

I think EK65 would be fine with it, has a home in Ottawa and they are much closer to winning that San Jose

EK65 has a NMC.

Players fight over NMCs in contract negotiations because they don't want to be moved off their new team against their will.

IMO, EK65 will play out his contract with San Jose and then sign with Ottawa when it expires in 2027.

I know what an NMC and EK 65 gave an interview answer that was I want to win indicating he wants to be traded thus flaming the ek65 to sens flames

There are a number of reasons for EK65 would not come back to Ottawa.

For instance ...

1. As a multimillionaire, he'd rather live in the sunny cosmopolitan valley of California than in the winter apocalypse of Ottawa, Canada.

2. He's playing 25 minutes a night and scoring more than a point per game for San Jose.

He's San Jose's #1 defenceman and this is his first season not playing second fiddle to Brent Burns.

3. As the former captain of the Ottawa Senators, he would want to be named captain again.

That means somehow taking the captaincy away from Brady Tkachuk.

4. The current GM of the Ottawa Senators is the same GM that traded him out of Ottawa 4 years ago.

Whatever anyone says in an interview to the media should not be taken at face value without looking at the underlying evidence of the situation.

His exact quote was "i want to win and hopefully that's here (san jose)

He is happy now in SJ. He loves playing for Quinn, he trusts Griers direction. He isn't accepting a trade back to ottawa and Sj isn't committing to 29 mil im retention. Ottawa isn't giving us Norris. This is not happening in more ways than one.

That interview he was pressured by the rumor mongering Elliotte Friedman. He literally said "I want to win and hopefully that's here (san jose). Op didn't post the full answer for some reason.

You are right. You and i had this discussion last week and it is the most sound Karlsson conversation out there lol.

You are speculating and rumor mongering. Sheng also translated it to San Jose. As he had said before this year that he wants to win in San Jose.

Just stop dude.

My reaction was more "ennh, maybe." Certainly is a needed skillset tho.
