Why would HABS give all those picks for Brock. We`re in a rebuild and you rebuild with draft picks. Canucks should be sending picks for us to take on his $6.65M contract

If Monahan slid over to the wing, I could maybe see a fit. The Isles will have enough space at the deadline that paying to retain probably won't be necessary. I don't think his value is at a 1st round pick right now anyways. I think something like a 2nd and a 5th is a lot more reasonable for him

Boeser is a cap dump. No one outside Vancouver thinks he's worth something at that AAV. You are doing the Canucks a favour by helping their cap to sign Kuzmenko and the many many holes to fill on their d corps.

Kings are content to run with Quick and Copley. No need to give up assets for Allen, who isn't better than either.

Is Copley the starter now? Goalies are a gong show this season. Picked up Akira Schmid, even. Still haven't considered Copley. Allen is at 7 goals saved above expected. I think he's much better than both of those goalies but Montreal is terrible! Problem is LA has too much money in tending atm

No, Quick and Copley will likely take turns. If the playoffs started today, Quick would still get the start in every game. However, the Kings can't afford to have Quick play 70 games this season or he'll burn out by April.

LA's problem isn't their goaltending, it's their defense (team defense, not the 6 guys with "D" next to their name). In games where their defense shows up (like last night), the goaltenders look just fine. In games when they don't, they get lit up. Petersen has gone down to the AHL and leads the league in save percentage (.939 in 4 starts).

Quick's contract ends at the end of the season and he'll re-up on a less lucrative contract. If Petersen doesn't work out for whatever reason, the Kings can buy him out in June 2024 and have a negligible cap hit ($167k in 2024-25, $1.167M in 2025-26). Petersen's buried cap hit next season is EXACTLY the same as Allen's cap hit ($3.85M). Not sure how bringing in Allen helps at all.

-Jake Allen is only marginally better than what Petersen and Quick have been. No reason to spend assets to add a third goalie to the pile of ineffectiveness, imo.

-Edmundson needs retention on that for Edmonton to even think about it - they're capped out and don't have the room. They can also probably get a higher caliber LHD shopping Bourgault & a 4th around, honestly.

-Monahan doesn't make sense for the Islanders - they need a winger, not a center, and I'm going to assume the Habs aren't going to take a discount on him because of that. They also shouldn't be trading their 1st for anything but a top-line guy - they haven't picked in the 1st round since 2019.

-Hoffman's 6 goals in 20 games still doesn't strike me as regaining positive value - he's not in full "staple a 1st to move him" cap dump territory, but I don't see a team giving up multiple mid-round picks for him either.

-Trading for Boeser doesn't make sense to me from the Habs' perspective. He's older than the rest of your core, he's paid too much, and he's UFA by the time I figure this team is ready to fully contend. I don't think giving up futures makes any sense for Montreal at this point; I also don't think it makes sense for the Canucks to trade him mid-season when no one really has cap space to add him without sending a bad contract back.

From watching Petersen and hearing other goalie 'experts' he doesnt seem like an NHL goalie. Makes himself small all the time. He doesnt have the sense to make himself big at the right times. He needs a lot of work and its probably in Europe. Really athletic but just doesnt seem to feel the crease at all!

I assume you're talking about Mike McKenna. I don't agree with his assessment of Petersen's game. I agree with him that Petersen has technical issues with his game this season, but I strongly disagree with him that these have been problems with him since he joined the league. His game has been technically sound for the past several years, and there's just something "off" since last season. Matt Millar is working with him in Ontario right now.

For the record, I am a former college hockey goaltender (long since retired). I don't consider myself an "expert", but I'm probably more qualified than your average internet commenter.
