I'm lost.
I offer Meier for Holtz and the 23 1st and NJD fans bash me saying it's unrealistic. Then I see offers like this for way more.
sharks should be happy with Meier for the 23 1st and Holtz TBF. maybe add in Johnson for cap dump and and a 24 2nd to sweeten the deal but adding Tartar is a bit much don't you think?
Sharks obviously accept.

Market fluctuates quickly. Holtz value isn't what it was a year ago since he's struggling in NHL this year, and NJ 1st is worth less considering they're 4th in league standings. Swap Johnsson in for Tatar I guess.

If NJD are happy with this deal i think sharks would be too! either way sharks would Dial back Holtz and let him play in the AHL and get his footing with Eklund.
then the sharks would use the cap saving from Meier being gone to try and steal Kuzmenko from Vancouver this offseason.
win win for both clubs!

Yeah I'm sure Holtz would love to reconnect with his buddy Eklund, Meier and Hischier are close and have chemistry too. This type of deal makes too much sense.

It’s because some Devils are impatient and would give Holtz away. Same that wanted to give Hischier away for pennies on the dollar.

It's not really "giving him away" if you're getting a young 1st line winger back.

Holtz is 20. He has 2+ more years of his ELC left. Is 13th forward on a team with a lot on the wing. And he is putting up similar numbers as Meier did at same age.

Be patient.

Without an extension for Meier, it would be a mistake. Just like giving up Hughes or Hischier for Laine would have been last year.

This team is so far beyond waiting on prospects to develop. Hughes and Hischier are driving the bus, team has plenty of cap flexibility and expendable assets. Strike while the iron is hot, this team is ready for a big move. It's time to get serious.

Nobody offered Hughes for Laine, ever.

"If neither team works a deal". So you are saying DeBrincat and Bratt retire or play in the SHL for 1m?

I think you can get Meier cheaper.

If neither Bratt and Debrincat can reach an extension with their current clubs, fine. I think that's the best way to maximize his trade value. But on the flip side, I'm not entirely sure I prefer Debrincat to Bratt, so that kinda sucks in that regard.

Still say its Holtz or 23 first and adds, not both.

When OTT trade Cat it is going to be for a top 2 RD and cat is going to want 9M+ which should be 1-2M more than Bratt should ask for so if they not sign Bratt for 7-8M why would NJD trade for cat who wants and will get ( for his last RFA year) 9M+

Agree, Holtz will probably make it Meier's level someday which is why SJ wants him for Meier. Meier was pretty slow out of the gates even when SJ was a good team.
So I see it as a NJD needs Meier now while SJ needs Holtz later situation. It comes down to how hard NJ wants to push for the cup sooner vs later

funny thing is in 21 you could have had Meier for 2 2nds, now I think your undervaluing him with Holtz and a 1st.
to be fair if there is a better fit out there for less cost NJD should jump but Meier and Hischier has history and would be good together and Holtz and Eklund have history and would be good together.
everyone talks about the 2 ELC years but those are going to be growing years and far from his prime, he wont really produce till after the ELC years and Meier produces for you NOW and when your team is surging and is a potential cup contender.
and instant gratification always costs more than delayed! ergo the 23 1st (that is 4-5 years from being in their prime and productive) and Holtz (2-3 years from being in his prime and prodctive) is a fair value for Meier who is productive now and will be for at the very least the next 5+ years

I wont argue any of that. I just think it can be a smaller pkg than what has been suggested. Dont want to negate TM as a player etc. Every one of these deals was always bigger and the final pkg has been less than expected, thats really it. I would say that the adds I am suggesting are players already in their system and playing and depending on what the adds are maybe current roster but I dont know what is the biggest need in SJ. I think Grier tries to work a deal with TM after the cup but before the draft and that is where this shakes out (devils or another team)
