Nope. Absolutely not. "Flip 'em for what you REALLY want" is shorthand for "get screwed over." Mid-to-late 1st or no Gavrikov.

that's not really what it means haha. it's more so just a cap move and the CBJ can re flip him. but i do agree a 2nd is low for Gavrikov

I hope that's the market price for those type of defenseman this year too. Last year was crazy.

Noted. If the cap is a concern, we're able to retain on Gavrikov; indeed, given the state of team caps right now, it's kind of expected we'd have to. But if we take back additional cap, we need compensation for doing so.

Dumo has a year left so you aren't really taking much cap back and like I mention, you can easily re-flip him at 50% for like a 4th? Pens simply have 0 cap space rn and any trade would need a contract going on the way out

I looked up his contract status before I replied. It doesn't change my statement. If we take back additional cap, we need compensation for doing so.

That makes 0 sense haha. you are saying you won't take on another contract in a Gavrikov deal when chance are you are already getting a late 1st or eequivalant to that for him haha
many teams are up againts the cap so chances are you will be taking back a contract either way ahah

The cap situation around the league is why max retention is a nonissue for geting the 1st back. Gavrikov at 50% retained has an AAV of $1.4m/year. That is easily managed by a majority of teams around the League, especially at the deadline. That is an accommodation that is very easily done. It's only if a team tries to send us more cap back in an effort to make it 'cap neutral' for them that we ask for more. This is not unreasonable.

it's all smoke and mirrors. In our case, hooray! But whoever suckers a 1st (and hopefully more) will just see Gav is a turnover machine
