I'm one of the few that doesn't want a Miller trade; however, this value looks pretty fair.

Play him at 3rd center this season, the 2LW next season. If this was plausible I would do it in a heartbeat.

This would make re-signing Blueger impossible so the nucks could sign him since they should have the space to be their 3 c

It would mean Zucker is gone, not Blueger

I do not want to move JT, he’s a pt/game and plays with an edge.

I do think this deal makes sense, however. Nicely done.

No reason for the Pens to be paying Miller 8m for seven years....which is exactly the reason the author made this post.
I doubt if Miller's NTC has much meaning. It does mean he won't go to a lousy team with cap, but betcha he would welcome a trade to about 15 teams or more rather than stay in Vancouver.

Miller at #3C spot he will be going from about 21 minutes a game to about 15, it will make it hard to stay at a point a game pace. If he will play on the wing it makes more sense to keep him in the top 6.

After re-signing everyone, I have about $4.7M left in cap space next season to sign one more player, which can be Blueger, Zucker, or someone else. I currently have it as
Guentzel-Crosby-Rakell
Miller-Malkin-Rust
McGinn-?-Carter
Poelhing-Hallander-Archibald

If you want Blueger, he can play the 3C role. If you want Zucker, throw him 3LW, move Carter back to C and move McGinn RW. Many options though.

I guess that is fair. Dont know if the Pens want to take on such a big contract, but a hometown guy who is still playing at a PPG pace, without giving up a 1st, is pretty solid.

Sam Poulin as 3C, Blueger at 4C than have Hallander as a 13th F, Probably move Poehling to the 3rd line and CArter to the 4th. If we were to get JT, i belive Blueger is a much more Valuable player than Zucker TBH espicially for a 4th line role

Vancouver passes, Miller is worth more than a couple of 2nd round picks and cap dumps.

The point is to add to the center depth this season to take advantage of miss-matches. He would still get 12 minutes a night at 5v5 plus PP/PK time. Carter and the other centers aren't getting the job done on that 3rd line. JT would.

Is Miller the player worth more, yes. Even considering his contract, yeah probably, but the main reason I made this deal was so that VAN can afford to re-sign Horvat.

Zucker is gone regardless. Unless he takes a massive pay cut. But Blueger is definitely gone if they went after JT Miller.

Still have $ for Blueger or even Zucker if he takes a pay cut.

You’re assuming that you signed everyone to fair market value or what they will sign for. I’d be willing to bet Jarry gets at the very bare minimum 5-5.5 per year. That’s more than 1/3 of the remaining cap space. If Ty Smith pops off, then he will probably want a contract around the 2 million mark. So between him and Jarry alone is half the cap space. Now you’ll need to re-sign Poehling which is probably going to be in the 1-1.5 mark, a 4th line RW which will be in the 1-1.5 million mark for a decent one. An extra F which will be anywhere from league minimum to 1 million. Leaving you about 3 million for Blueger if every player signs on the bare minimum of what they would expect to be worth. And I think Blueger could get 3-3.5 on the open market. He is that important defensively and teams will covet his defensive play and pk play. It’s no coincidence that the pk has gotten miles better since he got over his injury.

It's kind of hilarious how different fan bases look at things. Toronto fans look at JTM like he's negative value and an awful player on a terrible cap. Pitt fans see a PPG player that can be had for cheap.

Personally I love Miller's play style and think he gets way more heat than deserved - admittedly I'm a Canucks fan though.

So if his production slips a bit no big deal as long as the 3rd line produces more than they are now. Ok that makes sense.

Everybody (not just fan bases) have a different view. Certainly JT has outstanding value this year. He shouldn't be getting heat for his current play It's that 8 year contract starting at age 30 that so many think is not good value. But that is subjective and we can have more "factual discussion in April 2032.

Sure, I get that. Just seems like people are throwing him into the list of worst contracts in the NHL. Like you say, we don't even know if it's bad yet. He's playing like an $8M player now and had a pretty terrible start.
