i don't see why they'd be more interested in kane than horvat? feels like horvat is a much better fit for what the avs need than kane

With how well Nieto has played this year and the fact he is on pace for career numbers offensively while still being one of the best defensive forwards and PK guys in the game at an almost league min salary I would hope for a 4th for him, but your not far off and to be fair I might be a tad unrealistic.

yea I kind of agree with you except Kane is still a very good player and adds that playoff pedigree and those Stanly cup rings.
I don't know but to me I just think Col should really try and hold on to their 1sts and 2nds or in 3-5 years this team is going to have some bad cap issues with zero quality prospects to fill out spots.

Don’t see any of those pieces being that interesting for Vancouver. With the Avs lack of higher end prospects they’d have to start an offer with the 2023 1st (unless for whatever reason they make Byram/Newhook available, but that’s unrealistic)

Yea I feel you! the offers for Meier have been underwhelming on here as well. feel both those players deserve more than what people post on here.

Avs have called multiple times in 2022 about him. Both before and post tdl.

There is probably a higher quality offer to be had but, I don't see it being too much higher unless that team can extend him.

I agree the avs should keep 1sts as they moved last years and my only guess is that management must see Newhook as the 2c(with healthy talent on his win) and thats why have been hard on Kane for a while now and not a center.
I think the Avs in 3-5 years will still be lethal and have the prospects for what they need. They're really only at risk of losing Toews, but I think he sticks around. The cap is going to go up by around 8m when he needs a deal and be 92m+ by the 3 year mark when Rants needs a new deal.
'25-'26 core of Mack(12.6), Lehk(4.5), Landy(7), Nuch(6.13), Makar(9), Manson(4.5) and Girard(5) will leave room to sign Toews-7m, Rants-12m and post bridge deals for Byram-6m, Newhook-5m. Thats only around 78m and the other spots can be filled by cheap deals on Annunen, Meyers, JLF, Olausson and Behrens before having to look for 3 bottom 6 fwds and a goalie.
I could be an overly optimistic homer though lol
Avs are for sure lacking in high end prospects aside from Behrens and the shot of Olausson(waiting for the rest of his game to develope).

Sure, Newhook and a 1st for Horvat with a 7x8 extention and 50% retention on that.

much more realistic deal. id assume canucks would retain on any horvat deal to maximize value. doubt that extension gets it done tho if it did id imagine nucks just resign him

Ya you’re not getting one of the best scorers in the NHL for scraps and a 1st. No chance

You make a lot of fair and reasonable points.
I do feel Towes is a luxury the Avs might have to let walk in order to help fill out the rest of the roster, i also feel Georgiev next deal will be 4.5-6.5 mil. (BTW Kuddos to the Avs for seeing his ability and taking the chance on him! I really wanted the sharks to take a chance on him)
personally if i was a GM I would keep as many of my 1sts and 2nds as possible. on a good team your lucky to have 25-30% success rate with 1sts being in the 20-30 range and 10-20% success with 2nds being in the 50-60 range. sprinkle in an UDFA or a mid to late round hidden gem here and there and you wind up with about 2 quality players every 4 years and 1-2 more depth pieces. given the typical lifespan of above average players in the NHL is 6-7 years and average players are roughly 2-3 years the turnover becomes insurmountable if you don’t have at least 1 rookie every year 2 is better.

“Someone to stand up to Tkachuk”?

Not sure Tkachuk stands between us and what we are trying to accomplish. If anything, Hischier handled it all with pure class.
