Laf will not be tradedat least this season

Description
*As everyone else does on here, just having some fun with likely unrealistic trades.

As a NYR fan, I actually really like Lafreniere and think he will be a really good player. The problem is the Rangers tend to shoot themselves in the foot at times between a combination of "win now" and "rebuild" mentality. If they are unwilling to move Kreider to the RW, I just think they need to trade him for someone who plays RW. This does help the Rangers financially as well with Slaf ELC. *As stated above, the likelihood is virtually 0%.

As for the SEA trade, Chytil might be one of the Rangers best players even with his somewhat limited ice time. I really love his game and think he could have a little more "now" opportunity with them. This trade for me is more about seeing if Othmann and Wright could grow together as the rest of our team ages. I like Tanev's game and am unsure of his trade value but this adds some speed and grit.

You don't actually think your suggested trades in their current states are fair, do you?

Unless Slafkovsky is still healthy scratched in favor of Michael Pezzetta or Joel Armia in his D+2 season, you can't really compare the two. It's not close at all.

Dach went for 13th and 66th overall picks in a bad draft year. He was a 3rd overall pick who wasnt being healthy scratched. Rangers would be lucky to get those picks for 2023 which is a much stronger draft. They arent getting a 1st overall pick player from just 6 months ago

do not base on what MTL paid for Dach to what NYR will get for Laf, MTL are complete and utter morons and grossly overpay for players when they acquire players, i mean they gave up a 1st + for a 3rd/4th liner in Dvorak, Dach was not worth a top 15 pick when he was traded and neither is Laf, but who knows maybe NYR will find a sucker like CHI and ARI did. (and it might just be MTL)

You're not getting more than Xhekaj, Struble and Ylonen for Laf, and this package is quite generous for what might have become a damaged good

We do not need Laf anymore than we need Dubois. The idea that every kid from Quebec must wear a Habs sweater is silly.

To be fair Dach and Slafkovsky would get healthy scratched/sent down if CHI and MTL had the same team expectations that the Rangers have. You might argue that CHI had similar expectations before they decided to rebuild but they probably weren't considering themselves to be a true contender even if that was the expectation.

NYR probably consider themselves to be a true contender but they are competing for a wild card spot. So, it's no surprise that a guy who is struggling is going to get scratched.

Draft year 82 game pace:

Laff 17.6 goals, 13.2 assists, 30.8 pts
Slaf 10.6 goals, 15.8 assists, 26.4 pts

Yikes

I don’t see them trading Slaf, but unfortunately I could see Montreal giving up a to much to acquire him given the pressure they face from locals and the French media to have French speaking players on the team. Hopefully it don’t turn into the Drouin story 2.0

His most common linemates are Evans, Anderson, and Pezzetta and the team as a whole is currently 26th and 28th in G/GP whereas Lafrenière's linemates were Zibanejad, Buchnevich, Chytil and the team was 17th and 10th in G/GP.

People on here act like when a player gets scratched, they are worth pennies on the dollar. The kid is 21 years old playing 3rd line minutes right now and has not been great the last few games. I saw this trade as more giving both teams something they would want. I did say it would be an overpay, but their numbers currently aren't that much different.

Bottom line is, the Rangers do not have to trade him unless they get what they believe he is worth, which is likely more than the majority of teams think he is worth.

Dach would be 6th in points on the Rangers and wouldve been sent to the AHL if the Rangers had him. Laffy is 7th on the rangers for points. He may be underperforming but shouldnt be scratched. Rangers are just a bad org all around

I don't think you actually watch Rangers games...he played with Zibanejad for like 3 games. He mostly played with Chytil and Kakko, all developing young players. He also has virtually no PP time lol

That is false. In his rookie season, his most common linemates were Zibanejad and Buchnevich (175 minutes) and then Chytil and Kakko (132 minutes).

The Rangers are bad all around but Lafreniere's numbers this year are better than Dach's numbers last year which is what would be relevant to the trade made last. You made mention of Dach not being a healthy scratch, so I was pointing out the difference in the two cases.

I wouldn't be surprised if Lafreniere can get the 6th-10th overall pick in the upcoming draft as he was the consensus 1st in 2020. Do I think any team will trade their top 10 pick for him now? No, but it could be a draft day deal when they are on/close to being on the clock if all the players of interest are gone. He could also land similar picks to what Dach got. At the end of the day, NYR aren't a rebuilding team so unless they are scared of an offer sheet there is no sense in dumping for less than they think he is worth or for a lesser player potentially.

I think people are overreacting though, just because he got sat a few games doesn't mean his time is over in NY for better or for worse.
