Defense solidified and grit added...Yes, Power drops to 3rd pairing but as he gains experience and Gabrikov gets older they swap and Power moves up to 2nd pairing or maybe Power tries the right side and is paired with Gabrikov.
I didn't include Johnson in a trade, if he doesn't sign we get a 2nd round pick and move on.

Power is playing 23:52 minutes of excellent hockey at age 19/20.

He doesn't need fewer minutes or to gain experience. He is incredible.

As I said then he can move to the right side...didn't seem to hurt Dahlin any. Point is the defense has been improved big time.
Actually being paired with Gabrikov would be a big plus for him.

I took the value from what Van fans expected in a trade, most not all had a 3rd as the starting point

I don't think it needs to be improved big time, I think an upgrade to the third pair needs to happen and jokiharju and Samuelsson need to be healthy

I didn't say he had to improve big time...I said THE defense is improved big time. If you watch the games the Sabres D is getting killed in front of our goalie. The last 3 games most of the goals against were tap ins bc we can't clear or tie up guys in front of the net. Gabrikov and Schenn are defense first guys and have some size. They would be big adds on the PK also.

I do watch the games. There is a difference between making modest upgrades and spending big assets and big dollars.

Wouldn't hurt if our goalies could make a save too

I wouldn’t move him to right side he’s 19 and a rookie. He has enough to deal with and doing great but bet Gavrikov could easily play right side. His great defense would allow Power to get more creative. He’d be great addition
Too many giving up at mittelstadt and at a 50 point run. Remember Thompson and how long he took and what we have now thanks to Adams and Don

The kid is incredible, but he has never played this many games in a year, good possibility he wears out playing that much every game. Nothing wrong with monitoring his minutes this year and a Good Vet would do him wonders.

Agree he is doing great but just like Dahlin he needs to learn and develop and will get better. 23:52 way too much in rookie year. Buffalo has to overuse him Dahlin and Samuelson so really need couple players to take pressure off them
Power will be incredible in couple years, perhaps even beyond Dahlin

This is trading a 1st and a good prospect and then handing that vet a big contract.

Also, this year is about development, as has been stated over and over again.

Actually a decent contract for him, don't know if I would give are 1st. And what does that have to do with Power playing with Schenn.

Imagine if Dahlin had that partner in the beginning to help him grow. Sabres screwed that up.

Considering we have nothing in the system coming up we need to spend to get decent talent either by trade or UFA. One 1st when we had 3 last year isn't going to set this club back. No major prospects are being shipped out.
As for the goalies you are right but blame Adams for going cheap in the off season.

Our top 6 defensemen are all under contract for next year already and 5 of them were drafted in 2018, 2018, 2021, 2017, 2017.

We can sign a ufa to play on the 3rd pair and/or make a smaller trade and also invest some draft capital.

I want our top 4 playing big minutes, you don't invest assets in terms of draft picks and salary to try and even out the minutes

Gavrikov worthy of 1st. Defensive specialist that could make life easier for d and our young goalies

Big minutes are under 22 minutes. You can’t run 82 games plus playoffs over that. Injuries and burnout over that

Adams trying to come up with goalies hoping Upl and Comrie work while waiting for Levi. Only spending need is for improved D but hopefully not 23 first. Very deep draft but if necessary go for it. Lots or prospects to trade but hopefully keep Kulich rosen and Savoie at least
Reinbacher and Strbak great right d in 23 draft

After the big 3 just because someone is signed doesn't mean you can't upgrade the position. Gabrikov checks the boxes. Stay at home defense first D-man, gives stability to Power and the PK.
You mentioned in another post about giving up a good prospect, between the 3 forwards drafted last year, 22 and 77 already here...then throw in the B prospects like Bloom, Kisakov and Nadeau the odds are Poltapov never puts a Sabre jersey on...You can't build an entire team through the draft. Then take into consideration we have 4 picks in the first 2 rounds this year which I would hope/think the majority would be dedicated to putting Dmen in the system.
I would prefer to have the likes of a Gabrikov on the 2nd pair over Jokiharju.

Exactly what I said in my post after your post, with 4 picks in the first 2 rounds the majority of those picks should be Dmen.
In my trades I used the 24 first, don't think Adams will trade the 23 first as I think he uses this draft to stock the system more, might use one of the seconds at best in a trade.
