I really don’t think Barrie should be a cap dump. He’s still putting up a ton of points for a D man regardless of his defensive capabilities. This coming from a Canucks fan

20 of his 29 points are on the powerplay with McDavid and draisaitl. Not very impressive.

Based on his play this year, he would straight away be the hawks best defenceman. I think barrie is much more than a cap dump at this point

Lmao no he wouldn't. Hawks pp is in the bottom half of the league. He ain't taking pp time from jones either. He'd have single digit points on the hawks since they can't score. Mccabe would still easily be their best dman this season.

Hawks probably think about it if McCabe will go to Canada. Just not sure it's quite enough w/ Barrie coming back. He'll get minimal PP time w/ Hawks on their 2nd unit, so his point production is gonna drop significantly. I'd do this if I was the GM, but sadly I'm not.

No way do Isles take that package for Mayfield. If they trade him, they'll get far better offers.

What we need to remember with McCabe, and other NTC, is when those contracts were signed there were significant travel restrictions to Canada because if Covid. Foe players with families, that was probably a significant. Times have changed so the "no Canadian teams" clause (if there ever was one) probably isn't as limiting now.

McCabe is also from Chicago and his family lives there year round, so doubt he wants to live in another country

That's a valid point. Just saying there isn't the same obstacles for travel to Canada as there was 1+ years ago when signed. He's also pretty competitive and there is lots of losing in his future in Chicago.

M-NTC's have been around for a lot longer than 2020. I don't think it has much to do with Covid-19.

Barrie would 100% take jone's PP1 time because Barrie is a top 10 point producing dman in the NHL over the last decade who is a powerplay specialist like few others in the league. Defensively he has been good this yr (although this is probably a blip). At the end of the day, its Chicago. There's legit no good dmen there minus a mcabe that probably has a hospital bed with his name etched on it with how injured he gets.. On a powerplay with kane, he will still be able to pile up the apples.

Jones has that huge contract. They're not taking away his pp1 time and risking his value dropping even more.

nurse isn't playing pp1, burns isn't in Carolina, dumba/spurgeon arent in Minny, provorov isnt in Philly, hedman isnt in tampa. Coaches don't give a crap about how much money a player makes. they focus on putting guys in positions where they are best fit. and barrie is by far the better fit on the powerplay over jones and its not even close

-I think Chicago passes on this. McCabe is the only D on the Hawks that's actually living up to their contract (and it's pretty affordable at 2x$4M left!) and could probably bring back a 1st rounder without having to take on a bigger cap hit in Barrie. The other reason is possibly my own speculation, but if they swap out McCabe for Barrie, their RHD depth chart would be Seth Jones - Connor Murphy - Tyson Barrie, and their LHD would be uhh...Jack Johnson - Caleb Jones? - Jarred Tinordi? Jesus that's awful. I think that, barring another signing this summer, they keep McCabe around as a veteran hand for a team that I assume will be *very* young next year.

-Islanders pass - there's just nothing here. Janmark is a "cap dump that brings some value"? That's a new one - most would say he's a 12th/13th forward that doesn't add anything but a body to the deal. Neimalainen is 24 and has one (1) total point in 43 NHL games, he'd probably be 6th or 7th on the Isles' LHD depth chart at best. And calling Tullio (4-4-8 in 27 AHL GP) and Lavoie (6-3-9 in 21 AHL GP) "offensive prospects" is a pretty big stretch.

If the Isles put Mayfield on the block, they should aim for a Josh Manson return - Mayfield is a very similar player with a lower cap hit. Manson got a 2nd and Drew Helleson; I think an issue with that - for Edmonton - is they don't have a ton of prospect in that value range. Guys like Bourgault & Holloway are higher-value prospects, and then it feels like there's a big gap before you get to the Broberg/Savoie/everyone else tiers. I'd say a 2024 2nd and Reid Schaefer would be close in value; or a 2023 1st and one of the guys from that lower tier.
