-I think Chicago passes on this. McCabe is the only D on the Hawks that's actually living up to their contract (and it's pretty affordable at 2x$4M left!) and could probably bring back a 1st rounder without having to take on a bigger cap hit in Barrie. The other reason is possibly my own speculation, but if they swap out McCabe for Barrie, their RHD depth chart would be Seth Jones - Connor Murphy - Tyson Barrie, and their LHD would be uhh...Jack Johnson - Caleb Jones? - Jarred Tinordi? Jesus that's awful. I think that, barring another signing this summer, they keep McCabe around as a veteran hand for a team that I assume will be *very* young next year.
-Islanders pass - there's just nothing here. Janmark is a "cap dump that brings some value"? That's a new one - most would say he's a 12th/13th forward that doesn't add anything but a body to the deal. Neimalainen is 24 and has one (1) total point in 43 NHL games, he'd probably be 6th or 7th on the Isles' LHD depth chart at best. And calling Tullio (4-4-8 in 27 AHL GP) and Lavoie (6-3-9 in 21 AHL GP) "offensive prospects" is a pretty big stretch.
If the Isles put Mayfield on the block, they should aim for a Josh Manson return - Mayfield is a very similar player with a lower cap hit. Manson got a 2nd and Drew Helleson; I think an issue with that - for Edmonton - is they don't have a ton of prospect in that value range. Guys like Bourgault & Holloway are higher-value prospects, and then it feels like there's a big gap before you get to the Broberg/Savoie/everyone else tiers. I'd say a 2024 2nd and Reid Schaefer would be close in value; or a 2023 1st and one of the guys from that lower tier.
