Drury says no thanks. Laffy not for trade plus they cannot fit Cat under the cap.

Ranger fan here... I would say this DeBrincat trade is pretty laughable. In what TDL market has an underperforming fringe top-line winger ever commanded such a haul? Cmon man. I don't think the Rangers should target him at all, but, if they did, the deal would be a 1st and a 2nd, and perhaps one of their prospects not named Othmann.

You are overpaying Brannstrom, JBD and Talbot.

Arizona, Vegas and the Rangers all decline.

He's on a 74 point pace, and he's been one of Ottawa's best players, despite playing only a handful of games with a top six C. He got like 5 games with Norris, and is just now getting a look with Stützle. The rest of that time was spent with a rookie who should be playing on the 3rd line and a washed up 13th forward. It's no wonder he isn't scoring like he did.

Personally I'm dead against this deal. Rangers will be a playoff team, so it'll be a later 1st, and Lafreniere hasn't shown anything to this point in his career. Ottawa probably doesn't replace the on ice value of DeBrincat for years, if at all. That's not what Ottawa needs at all. Maybe they'd bite if you swap Schneider in for the 2nds but there's no reason to do this imo. Ottawa is never gonna get better punting elite skill for magic beans.

Arizona will want more than just a 2nd to take Zaitsev.

If you throw in another 2nd or a decent prospect, they might think about it.

This is Zaitsev on an expiring deal. Can't imagine 4.5 mil for one year with a slight chance to flip at deadline gets more than a 2nd

Probably not cuz of cap space and they probably still think Laf has elite potential even if he doesn’t. But to think Debrincat only has the value of a 1st and a prospect not named Othmann is crazy

There's no chance he flips for positive value at the deadline.

Zaitsev will only have one season to prove himself.

Well Lou liked him enough with the Leafs to give him 4.5 x 7 ... So AZ might be able to flip him to the Idles for 2 first and Barzal

Debrincat with a year left on his deal, got a 1st, 2nd and 3rd. So when he needs a new deal, you think you can get more? Hell, Kirby Dach got 13th and 66th overall before he turned into a halfway decent player. Lafreniere is worth more than he is.

I had heard Laffy is on the table, and I suspect when the Rangers don't land Kane because he ends up in Colorado.... Laffy, NYR 1st, and a 2nd rounder is likely what DeBrincat fetches in this draft. NYR seem to have cap space coming up as they are also in on Timo Meier who requires a $10M QO.

Very few teams have cap space this upcoming offseason. To think Ottawa just landed DeBrincat on a whim like no one else was interested? Ottawa got him for a 10th overall in a very weak draft, a 2nd, and a 3rd. So likely no one else offered that much for him. His value is likely right on where it was if not worse as we had him this year for $6.75M. Whatever team trades for him now? bare minimum $9M and I don't believe most teams believe he is a $9M/yr player. So to land a 1st overall pick, a mid-1st rounder in a substantially deeper draft, and a 2nd or a prospect is likely where his value will be at.

I think they do take that deal. I think the Rangers miss out on Kane, and DeBrincat is the next best winger available. Lafrenierre isn't unseating Kreider or Panarin anytime soon so he will be stuck on the 3rd line and he hasn't thrived in that role. The Rangers have 2 1st rounders so I suspect they will give up one of them, and a 2nd would likely be enough to cover which isn't crushing for the Rangers and isn't huge for Ottawa but gives them a bit of draft capital to work with in the offseason.

Rangers do not have anywhere near that kind of cap space next season, it's basic math.

I don't agree... The Rangers have $15M for 6-7 spots next season. Chytil, Lafrenierre, Hajek, & Kravtsov are likely going to be bridged and won't hurt them too much. Throw in Othmann will be taking a spot on an ELC. K'Andre Miller will likely be the biggest bump, and if the Rangers get him on a long-term deal in the $8M-9M range it would be tight but they could make it happen.

Throw in the fact that Lafrenierre would likely have to be included in the trade also factors in. So Chytil ($2.5M), Hajek ($1.75 - 2M), Kravtsov ($1 - 1.5M) Othmann ($900K) Debrincat ($8.5M) Halak ($1.5M) would give the Rangers 23 players and be $900K over if the cap stays at only going up $1M. Hey the Rangers throw in Lindgren and the deal works out with cap space to spare. The Rangers then have:

    Miller - Fox
    Hajek - Trouba
    Harpur - Schneider

I'm just saying it's not as inconceivable as you might think.
