Crazy TDL idea

Created by: Campabee

Description
I honestly think a 3 way with Montreal-Vancouver-Winnipeg could work out well for all 3 teams. Of course it would be contingent on Montreal getting a 1st from either Colorado for Monahan (which I think will happen even if Av's fans don't)

You know, someone on here always says "if neither side likes the proposed deal, then it must be fair value". Since that is the case here, I guess this is a fair deal all around!

As to why the Jets do this is simple Horvat and PLD both have the same value and both have the same level of skill. Sure PLD is almost 3 years younger but Horvat would be locked up long-term instead of just having 1 more year of team control and going to walk. As for the numbers and length of his next contract, it will likely be similar to PLD's anyway as far as AAV but longer term. There is no reason to think this will upset the balance of the team other than you don't want your favorite player to leave.

Why would you think it wouldn't upset the locker room? Vancouver has has in-fighting issues between Miller and Horvat specifically. Why would Winnipeg want to bring one of the two participants into their lockerroom when they are playing well?

You haven't answered why Winnipeg would do it now. They aren't upgrading, so what's in it for the Jets? Dubois produces more offense in less ice time.

We don't know yet if PLD is willing to sign an extension, so why panic now and get older?

If you could provide an example of a team in Winnipeg's current position doing something similar, maybe there would be something to discuss.

We've had some good discussions lately, but there is just no logic to this one for Winnipeg.

Maybe because it doesn't make sense for Amy team.
Jets don't downgrade the team when Dubois' future could still be here
Vancouver could find a deal with less complexity and address their needs accordingly
Let's be real you just want Dubois but understand that you don't have the assets to pry him away which brought in a whole other team. Pld isn't being traded this deadline earliest the draft but that would be after horvat moves. This is one deal that works for nobody and no one likes it because it goes against what each team is trying to achieve

If the Habs want Portillo they can just wait until July to sign him. If they want a jump on it im sure buffalo would take a 5th for his rights. I don't think the Sabres would have any interest in Allen though.

Honestly don’t hate Mesar + 1st + Harris (would prefer Barron though as we have a need at RHD) for Horvat

Just don’t think Winnipeg moves Dubois at the TDL, so don’t think it happens

Buffalo has zero need for Allen, they are already juggling 3 goalies on the roster right now with UPL, Comrie and Anderson. Also you're limited to 3 retained salary transactions.

I'm sure something around Portillo for a pick or prospect could work for Buffalo, but they won't be taking on a 4th goalie.

LOL, I forgot I retained 3 times already. Fair enough on Allen though I guess just drop Allen and make the 2nd the Habs 2nd in 2024

Buffalo probably takes that. They'd likely also be open to a defensive prospect as the pipeline is seriously lacking dmen.

why would canucks trade for PLD and trade him right away lmao

WOW, there must be something in the water out west!

Let me break this down in simple terms for everyone involved here.

Winnipeg gets a middle 6 winger upgrade for half the price and a replacement center who is just as good as PLD for a guy they know will not resign long term

Vancouver gets a bunch of future assets for their rebuild for (PLD) a guy they know will not resign in Vancouver

Montreal, gives up the most pieces in the deal but gets back a guy (PLD) they know will only resign in Montreal and that fills the 2C hole long term.

This is not rocket science people, everyone is getting what they want/need in the short and long term for their respective teams.

What? Did you change the deal? What middle six winger is Winnipeg getting and who is he upgrading?

I know you are trolling but I will answer anyway, Drouin is the middle 6 winger and he is an upgrade on Barron, Kuleman, Appleton and depending on Wheeler's health him too (mind you if Wheeler stays healthy he is better than Drouin).

I think you're not being serious. Drouin isn't an upgrade on any of those players as he can't kill penalties and is a disaster defensively, so he's no good for the bottom 6 and doesn't provide enough offense to play in the top 6. He's useless to Winnipeg. He's maybe as valuable as Kuleman, but I'll take the cheaper guy that is good at his job.

Thinking Drouin is a middle six player on a good team, is unrealistic. Here I was thinking you wanted to have a serious conversation and you're slipping back to toeing the Montreal fan line of cap dumps being valuable to other teams for some inexplicable reason.

Do Montreal fans realize that Jake Allen has pretty bad numbers? Why would Buffalo give up a 2nd rounder *and* a decent goalie prospect for Allen? He's put up an .892 SV% and 3.52 GAA this year and is signed for 2 more years at a $3.85M AAV. There are literally *18* UFA goalies this summer who've played at least 10 games this summer and have a better save percentage, so even if Craig Anderson calls it a career this summer, the Sabres have plenty of stopgap options while they wait for one out of UPL, Portillo, & Devon Levi to develop into a #1 goalie.

Even if Portillo is adamant about not signing with the Sabres, they'll just trade him for a pick - like what Minnesota did with Jack McBain last year. They're not going to use a positive asset like Portillo's rights to get an expensive, bad goalie.

Actually, I based this off of a Sabres fans ACGM from earlier this week, and if you look back up a few comments to where FUNKSOLJAH and I had a conversation about it we agreed the deal should be something like the Habs 2024 2nd or a D prospect like Struble for Portillo.
