Toews

Created by: NMAvsFan
Team: 2022-23 Colorado Avalanche
Initial Creation Date: Jan. 17, 2023
Published: Jan. 17, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Can't have the 2023 1st but this is a good offer for a player that can pick his destination; this scenario assumes he'll only go to the Avs and he re-signs at 3Mx2. Maltsev can play NHL minutes and Beaucage has potential as a goal-scorer. Might have to get a 3rd team involved to help with retention.

Seems reasonable to me as an Avs fan but I bet Chicago wants more.

Of course they'll want more but Toews gets to pick where he wants to go. It may end up not being the Avs considering where they are or Toews may give a list of teams which will cause a bidding war the Avs shouldn't get involved in and can't win. But, like the description says, this assumes Toews says, "I'll only go to Denver." And a 1st plus two okay prospects isn't a bad return considering what Philly got for Giroux in the same situation.

They can want all they want but if he or Kane says only this team they will be lucky to get that. I think teams learned or I hope they learned from the Giroux deal.

Toews plus a 2nd this year for first next year is light. Take out the second and players from COL and Hawks might take that.

Not if Toews says Denver is the only place he'll go which is what the description says

You're right. Seems like most traded are assuming Toews/Kane will only go to a specific team. Of course, as a previous post said, why would Toews only want to go to a team that isn't assured of a playoff spot?

If it gets out there that Toews is willing to extend 2x3M, then I’d imagine there would be a bunch of teams willing to give an offer. COL is a unique situation in that players coming off IR should greatly improve chances…but if Toews willing to extend in a deal like this, could realistically see real interest from teams like BOS, TBL, DAL, and NYR- to name a few.

Toews is unlikely to accept a 2 year at $3M per season deal; he mine as well hang it up if that's all the market offers but I highly doubt that is all the market offers. He's likely still going to land with a 4 in front of the number or higher.

Chicago may not end up trading Toews and or Kane if the offer is bad. It's better to keep them on the team as both drive revenues for the team and sell tickets. A upgrade from a 2nd to a 1st probably isn't compelling enough even if they pick one destination to move them. Mine as well continue to sell jerseys and tickets and have a off-season discussion with both about the future.

I don't think either team accepts this deal. Not enough quality for the 'Hawks plus giving up a 2nd this year and I don't think the Avs will be too keen to deplete the prospect pool any further.
