Trade DL - CUP ALL in

Created by: Woody
Team: 2022-23 Boston Bruins
Initial Creation Date: Jan. 18, 2023
Published: Jan. 18, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
This is a all in and no trade is far from realistic. Would win a cup? Best team ever put on the ice in the salary cap era?
Trades
1.
BOS
  1. Chychrun, Jakob
Additional Details:
Grz, Lohrei and a 1st more than enough. If you think teams are offering more just remember there's a reason he hasn't been traded yet. 3rd is for Smiths contract
ARI
  1. Grzelcyk, Matt
  2. Lohrei, Mason [Reserve List]
  3. Smith, Craig
  4. 2023 1st round pick (BOS)
  5. 2024 3rd round pick (BOS)
2.
BOS
  1. Kane, Patrick ($5,250,000 retained)
Additional Details:
Chicago does Kane farewell and Kane picks where he wants to go. He wants to win a cup and so he picks Boston. Bruins give a second and some. prospects in respect. Sort of like Hall trade. Reilly gets taken as he can be bought out for 300k next year and that's why a little more of a price tag.
CHI
  1. Duran, Riley [Reserve List]
  2. Kuntar, Trevor [Reserve List]
  3. Reilly, Mike
  4. 2025 2nd round pick (BOS)
3.

Both Chychrun and Kane aren't happening, And you're nearly $2,000,000 over the cap.

Zona has zero interest in Grizz. They want futures. Swap him for the 25 1st you probably have a deal.

Kane is playing through an injury that requires surgery. You could easily have another Rick Nash or Kase situation where he plays a few games and is done.

He is also shooting 5% for the year. For perspective when Debrusk sucked during Covid and fans wanted to run him out of town, he was shooting 5%.

If you want a creator that plays no defense and zero physicality there are cheaper options.

Swap grizz for Lysell and you might get chychrun. If this was all it took for him he would’ve been traded by now

Hawks decline. There is literally nothing in that trade of value to the Hawks. Kane may waive only to Boston. Doesn't mean Hawks have to give him away for scraps.

Kane has been playing through a hip impingement for a couple years now, this isn't new this season.

-Already been said in this thread, but the Coyotes aren't going to be terribly interested in a 29 year old Grz, especially when they're already taking back $3.1M of Craig Smith to help make the deal work. Lohrei & the picks are a good start, but they're going to need another prospect - not Lysell, but someone like Matt Poitras or Georgi Merkulov that has some sort of NHL trajectory. Grz doesn't fit their timeline, and beyond that, actually has a salary higher than his cap hit - the type of contract that's been anathema to the cap floor Coyotes in the past few years.

-This is a laughably bad deal for Kane, regardless of how you feel about him as a player. It's a 2nd rounder three drafts away, two prospects with "AHL depth/4th line forward" upside, and a cap dump - this would maybe get you Max Domi fully retained, but certainly not Patrick Kane. Even in a down year with nagging injuries he's scoring at a 60 point pace - even if he controls his destination he'll still get a better package than this (see: Claude Giroux last year.)

-Probably fair for Schenn but do you really need him?

Your point? It still at the point where he needs surgery to clean it up. Hawks have reportedly considered shutting him down.

Boston would be taking him as a pure rental. If it took a turn after acquiring him they would get nothing out of him.

Personally i have zero interest in him. I hope the org does as well. Given their track record of not pursuing and overpaying for big name rentals. It should be the case.

It's been at that point is the point...this is not new or getting worse structurally...impingements don't work that way. If you understand hip impingements, it is an elective out-patient procedure and does not stop Kane from playing. It's a matter of whether he wants to deal with discomfort and how much he is willing to tolerate for a team that is tanking. If Kane wants to chase another cup, he will do nothing this season; it's not "the Hawks" decision it is solely his. If he doesn't want to chase a cup, he will have it repaired is my guess or continue to just rehab it by building strength around it.

Hip impingements are extremely common in the general population, you may have one and not even know it. I have one and my wife had one; she had hers repaired as a marathon runner and I did not. It's all about tolerating discomfort; it's a nagging thing not a catastrophic injury. Kane took a bad hit on that hip and the area was temporarily extra sore so he sat out. If the Hawks were competing, he likely wouldn't have missed time. The point is, it's ultimately his choice on whether he wants to go to a team to compete or not; it's not the way you framed it that it can get way worse and force him from playing.

If he only waives for 1 team expect a Taylor Hall type return when he was in the same situation. 2nd/Bjork in case you forgot. Considering his health and dropoff, i wouldn’t even do that.

The kane trade really is far from realistic.

I also think adding kane might make the forward group worse when healthy. He’s a great player, but just not a good fit.

It was not reported, it was speculation. There is a difference. As of now, Kane is fine and playing again. He only missed 3 games.
