Created by: Amd
Team: 2022-23 Pittsburgh Penguins
Initial Creation Date: Jan. 21, 2023
Published: Jan. 21, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Retention thing for TOR on Meier. Apparently he’ll fetch less than Debrincat due to no extra term.

Pens get Amirov from leafs, get rid of Kapanen, and a bunch of picks.
SJS get a bunch of picks.
Leafs get Meier at 1/2, and pay because of it, but not a first, which apparently they’re loathe to do.

Klingberg is similar situation.

Poulin is a lot to give up for Barbashev, but it works for Pitt if they resign in the summer.

Rutta on LTIR because someone will have to be to make this work when Letang is back.

I'd wager Meier costs a lot more than this

Garbage offer for Meier, Amirov has brain cancer. He's not getting traded.

Klingberg isn't waiving for Pittsburgh just to be traded to a team that could be on his no trade list.

Hilarious that you think you could acquire Klingberg for the difference between a pick in the low 30's and a pick in the mid-teens, but you can turn around and get a first and a second from Winnipeg for him. And even if that third Anaheim-Pittsburgh transaction is supposed to be part of the original deal, it means that you get Klingberg for a first and two upgrades, and then get the first back from Winnipeg plus a second.

The Blues would need a 2nd instead of a 5th and we will take Dumo!

I took a minute to map out the early round picks this morning, because I had to see just how dumb this was. Using the draft slotting of today's standings.

Anaheim gets: 18 and 50 (21.6 value) and WPG 5th
Pittsburgh gets: 25 and 34 (18.2 value) and WPG 2nd 2024

Assuming here that the ANA 4th and Ruhwedel wash (which they don't).

So yeah as we all saw from the get-go, PIT gets more value for 1.5M in retention than ANA does for the actual player and larger retention.
