Hynes Fired Poile Retired

Created by: ZPirtle
Team: 2023-24 Nashville Predators
Initial Creation Date: Jan. 23, 2023
Published: Jan. 23, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Preds management decides to hold someone accountable and rebuild this team. It's going to be tough to get out from under all of the long-term contracts on aging players, so move what you can and get some young guys/picks.

Boudreau or Brunette hired.
Resign Lankinen and split games with Askarov. Juuse is the best asset on this team. Love the guy, but it makes sense to move him.
EDM gets eliminated early because of their D. Ken Holland rage trades for Ekholm.

I've never understood the Preds ownership love for Poile. They must think is a King or Pope.....he has to die before he gives up his job. So much mediocrity for years.

Would Preds fans get behind this trade, I wouldn't think moving Fabbro and saros would cost more.
Fabbro can fill the spot JDB should eventually and this move also opens up the goalie position for the Sens very well.

Not sure what the deal with Formenton is, I think it is still tied to the World Junior scandal. I had heard that every time already had a chance to trade for him and no one wanted him for cheap, so not sure how much that will change by the summer.

Nashville is not making that OTT trade with Formenton and it's a very underwhelming return.

Ekholm's value is probably a touch higher than two cap dumps.

Formenton is an automatic decline.

If Kenny Holland is rage trading, don't you think he'd overpay instead of robbing NSH blind?

The patience they show with Poile must be do to him being their GM from the inception of the team. They may have a reluctance to fire him out of loyalty, but it’d be best for the Preds to move him into some other small role in the organization. Not totally “fire” him, but let him still have an “advisory” role with the team

I’d say just about every one of these trades is bad for the Preds. Especially the EDM and OTT ones

Forgot about the scandal part. Maybe they're decent trade partners, but the details could be improved.

Good point. Should've included some high picks in this deal.

Ottawa easily accepts.

Saros is not worth a low level prospect, 1 1st round pick and a bottom six player with a bunch of controversy surrounding him.
Based on that value, you're also giving away a top 4 RD for next-to nothing on top of that.

Saros is a franchise goaltender and the backbone for the Predators, not just some tandem goalie.
Aside from Josi, he's the best player on the team. That speaks volumes considering he's a goalie.

He's also on a steal of a contract. You're going to have to move heaven and earth to acquire a Vezina finalist. At the very least OTT gives up Batherson.
