Spicy. Can't see the Canucks wanting Bratt for Petey unless they're going to flip him.

The Canucks aren't trading Pettersson. If they were, that wouldn't get it done.

Pettersson would cost more. As great as Bratt is the Canucks already have too many wingers

I’m curious as to why. This is about as good of a return as either team could hope for, if they won’t resign with their respective teams

Bratt would pretty easily be the best winger on the Canucks, no? I’m pretty sure he’d lead all their wingers in points, but I haven't really compared him to the underlyings for Nucks wingers

He would be our best winger yes, but we already have Kuzmenko, Miller, Boeser, Mikheyev, Garland, Podkolzin, and Hoglander on the wing, and have been seemingly struggling to find takers for some of them. In any hypothetical Pettersson trade the two main pieces would have to be a RHD and C imo

I don’t understand why say no to a player who would be one of the best on the team, all for the sake of need (which might not even be met via trade for anything near this value)

Like, NJ could absolutely temove Bratt and give up Mercer… but that seems like way less value than EP is worth for the sake of need lol

No team is going to trade their 1C without getting a potential replacement. I don't think NJ would be interested anyways since they might as well trade Bratt for an available winger.

Interesting idea, although the timeline of your hypothetical seems somewhat problematic Pettersen would be eligible for an extension next year but I'm guessing he won't immediately shut the idea down/request a trade. If it does happen, it's probably sometime during next season by which time there would probably already be a decision on Bratt. I would imagine a Bratt for Meier swap would be more likely (assuming they or someone else don't trade for him), if Bratt couldn't come to terms with management or if management just decided they liked Meier better.

I mean, that seems like a no brainer for NJ. Maybe that plus a boom or bust prospect like Vilen, Gritsyuk, or a lower ceiling, higher floor guy like Foote, Walsh?

Sign here. And here. Initial here And here. Here.

And boom.

You’re down to one Elias Pettersson. Congrats.

Pettersson has said he wants to stay in Vancouver. He's easily our best player and gets better every year. And management has said he's the only player they won't listen to offers for.

This is assuming neither EP or Bratt will resign with their current teams

Again, Petterson has said he wants to stay in Vancouver so what's the point of assuming otherwise?

This is still assuming a scenario where neither of them want to resign with their respective teams in that case too

Similar to other responses on the value of Centres over Wingers. The inclusion of Nemec doesn't solve for where VAN is also lacking right now - depth down the middle. They have a plethora of scoring wingers in Kuzmenko, Miller, Boeser and Garland (who they are already paying above market value for); that doesn't include the scoring wingers on entry level deals in Abbotsford in Podkolzin, Hoglander and Klimovich. If Pettersson was a target, VAN would probably look for someone like Mercer, Nemec a '23 1st AND '24 1st.
