I wouldn’t mind a Girard addition considering that probably one of Carrier or Fabbro won’t be back

Decent value for Girard. I mean I’d want to pay a bit less, but it’s ok. Preds might do it

Ive seen Ekholm rumours which is mainly why I thought they might want a replacement D. Im surprised about Carrier/Fabbro though - why dont you think they will both be back?

Avs could maybe throw in a 3rd or prospect?

I would be really disappointed with a 4x4 for Erod that’s a bit rich imo. Helm might just be done. I’d re-sign Meyers. I do like the idea of Pulijarvi.

What do you think a better contract for Rodrigues would be?

If Helm retires he could be replaced with any 4C really. He skated a bit in a non contact jersey today so we'll see where he ends up

I didnt bother showing signings for non-NHLers - Meyers, Annunen, Ranta, Merkley, etc would all be signed but start in the AHL unless there were injuries

IF (big if) the Avs were to trade Girard, the value is okay here but I do think the Avs would be looking for a young-ish C coming back; I'm thinking a trade with a team like Ottawa for a player like Pinto or Grieg makes more sense. I actually think EJ retires after this year - he's really lost a step or two and can't keep up. Puljujarvi would be a great reclamation project for Bednar - rebuild his confidence and get him to be a strong third-line player.

Id be happy with Pinto in a Girard trade. I dont know much about Greig

EJ I think is fine in a 3rd pair role. With Manson out his minutes have increased this season and which isnt ideal but I think playing him 15-16 mins on the 3rd pair would be fine. I remember he said recently he wanted to keep playing with the Avs after this year. Maybe if Merkley impresses in camp then he and EJ could battle it out for the 3RD spot

Grieg has promise (but hardly any NHL experience so still very green) and he still has two years left on his ELC while Pinto needs a new deal; Pinto's size is plus. I bet Ottawa would have to think long and hard about Pinto for Girard - their D is just so, so bad and they have so many young C's that sacrificing Pinto could seem like a fair trade for them. And with the Avs likely losing both ERod and JTC, Pinto would be a great young add. To me, that's a solid hockey trade even if it opens a bit of a hole on the backend for the Avs.

2x3 almost doubles his career earnings 3x2.75 does double his career earnings while both amounts would be career highs.

He was offered 3x3.5 last summer and declined. He's now on pace to set career highs so the price should only go up from there

He would have to take a pretty big discount to sign 2x3 or 3x2.75 imo. Zacha just got 4x4.75, Moore got 5x4.2, Mikheyev got 4x4.75. I think those would be the comparables he would point to and Rodrigues is arguably better than all of them

Over paying for guys like Erod is always what leads to a teams cap demise. Mikheyev is a massively overpaid for his production, honestly so is Zacha, who is Moore? In ERod’s case he is a contributing passenger not a contributing driver. By that I mean he puts up numbers when put with studs, but when he has to drive a line he is more Jost like. $4M in your bottom 6, because it’s either Newhook next year or it’s someone not on the roster at 2C, is just not something this team can afford with extensions due for guys like Rantanen, Toews, Byram and Newhook (you only gave them 3 yr deals in this ACGM but would need to be re-signed again)during that contract. Erod is one of those guys that when push comes to shove he either takes a more team friendly deal or you put some one else in that spot
