So the Kings trade two goalies and more for an injured 3.93 GAA Demko?

There are very, very, very few goalies worth a prospect like Brandt Clarke, even one for one. I can assure you that Thatcher Demko is not one of them.

Take out Clarke and Quick, and add a 2nd round pick from LA to Vancouver. The pick would be a 2024 because there could be conditions on how well Demko plays next year allowing it to jump to a 2024 1st.

Other than that, LA isn't interested.

Edit: Lol, reading an article about Toronto. Meant Vancouver, and fixed.

I'm willing to let the Demko situation boil over to the off season, let's see the price then.

Good to get a vibe check. Clearly people higher on Clarke than I was. I do think taking Petersen adds negative value to LA (retained or not), Quick was added for cap reasons for LA (VAN wouldnt be interested in both, are actually interested in neither).

My thought was Demko + taking Petersen & Quick = Clarke + a B(ish) prospect

I think this shows people make comments about players that don't watch. Price, mid-prime, had a 3.11 GAA. Let that erase the goalie he was before and then again after...

The Kings who are making a playoff run wouldn't be watching Demko play, 3ithr as he is injured......How is even good for the Kings this season> Then with the Peterson retention, that makes Demko a 6.5m goalie. Yeah, I know the Kings want to do something about Peterson and his cap at sometime, but geez doesn't this look so one sided for the Canucks?

Demko is (supposedly) back before the TDL. This would be done under that assumption. If not then yes, its an offseason thing. Either way, Demko + Petersen = a team's #1A prospect

Why would the Kings give up anything of value for "dumping" Petersen if they're retaining $1.5M on his contract? That's barely any savings over stashing him in the AHL next season then buying him out.

Its a 3.5m savings instead of 1.125m. That's a real liberal use of the word "barely"

You guys have gotta get over the wet dream that we'll be trading for Demko anytime before the summer solstice, or that we'll be trading Clarke without Quinn Hughes coming back.

There are 11 games left before the trade deadline, and Demko isn't off the IR list yet 10 weeks into his "6-week" anticipated rehab time. Anybody who would trade significant assets for him without seeing him play at least 20 games has the IQ of a fish. And he may not have time to get those 20 games in before the end of this season.

The false premise from which all of these silly Petersen trades arise is that we have to get rid of a guy we don't have to get rid of. Our roster is set for next season already with only a $1 million rise in the cap ceiling; Petersen can spend the entire season in Ontario and if he never recovers his early form, we can buy him out cheaply in July 2024, so his cap hit is no concern to us.

VAN fans do NOT want to trade Demko so idk what "wet dream" you're talking about. It sounds like management is open to that idea so if thats the case, VAN isnt just gonna dump him for scraps. Thus the title "IF" Demko is traded. C'mon, man just give your comment a little bit of thought before clicking send.

The wet dream of 10 Vancouver fans each posting one ACGM per day trading Demko to Los Angeles for some combination of Byfield, Clarke, and/or a Petersen-plus-the-2023-first -- THAT wet dream.

I gave my comment a lot of thought before clicking Send the first two times I responded to this trade earlier today. It didn't require any extra thought now.

And $2.375M of savings for one season is worth the Kings best defensive prospect in 15 years? I'd give up a 3rd round pick for that.

Hmm, seems like if you have keep saying the same thing over and over again that you should probably give it a little more thought so it resonates with someone.

Demko is injured and wasn't playing well this season. He's worth a decent return, but I wouldn't trade Clarke for him 1-for-1.

This was a proposal made by a reasonable Vancouver fan the other day that the Kings would consider.

C'mon man, this ACGM was made under the assumption that Demko is back healthy and playing pre-TDL. Didn't think that needed to be said. If not, then obviously this trade wouldnt need to occur until the off-season.

Doesn't matter. With an injury history (and poor play before he went down), there's a good chance that he's not capable of top quality play any longer. The main piece of the trade will be a draft pick, and that draft pick needs to have a performance condition attached.

I do not think it's a stretch to call Brandt Clarke equal to a 1st rounder - he was the #8OA pick in 2021 and has done nothing but validate that pedigree since.

So, with that in mind, it's worth noting: the only goalie traded in the last 5 years for a 1st round pick was Darcy Kuemper before last season - colorado gave up a 1st you could reasonably predict would be a pick in the mid/late-20s, Connor Timmins, and a conditional 3rd for Darcy Kuemper with retention. Kuemper was coming off a 3 year run in Arizona where he put up a .922 SV% and 2.35 GAA in 111 GP, getting Vezina & postseason All-Star votes in 2 of those years, and even getting some down-ballot Hart Trophy votes in 2019. In other words, dude was on a crazy heater and Colorado viewed him as the guy to get them over the hump - and they *still* got retention coming back in that deal.

Even if you throw out Demko's struggles this year (a big ask, I'd say), his numbers still don't touch Kuemper's - .913 SV%, 2.83 GAA, and only really recognized with postseason award votes last season. I just can't see him getting similar value back in a trade, especially when you have to consider that he struggled mightily this year before getting injured - his trade value has definitely taken a hit.

Beyond all that - why the hell would the Kings, in playoff position, trade 2 of their 3 goalies with NHL experience for a guy in Demko who still isn't healthy enough to play and has been out with a lower body injury for 2+ months at this point? And even more so: in what world would the Kings trade Jonathan Quick for *anything*? Dude's the franchise icon, I can get it if he decides to do the Marty Brodeur "one more year" in a weird jersey, but that'll be his choice, not the team unceremoniously shipping him out.

Oh, so the fact that low-IQ people can't process elemental facts no matter how many times it's dinned into them requires ME to devote extra thought? Hilarious.

Be careful . . . you're lumping yourself into a group with some unappealing cohorts.

Most of that was great so thank you for putting some thought into it. That last paragraph was objectively poor. A quick read of all the comments above (fair if you didnt) and you'd see that this trade is under the assumption Demko is back and playing pre TDL, Quick and Petersen were simply added to help LA with Cap (not because VAN would want them). I think VAN would be fine to let the ship sail on Clarke since he is apparently the second coming of Bobby Orr according to this thread and have the deal be Demko for Grans, a 2023 1st and a sub-23 y/o B-to-B+ forward prospect.

Including Quick just doesn't make sense from the jump, to me. LA has the cap space to absorb Demko's $5M if they're shipping out Petersen ($3.375M penalty when he's buried) without having to throw in any extra cap offset, and especially not a guy who's been there since 2007.

And I still think your ask is too much - Grans/1st/B+ prospect is still a ton more value than a team would be giving up for a goalie. There's just no real recent history to justify that type of return, and no GM is jumping at the chance to be the one setting the new high-water mark paying for a goalie, especially when you're talking about a guy in Demko who's probably at the lowest trade value in his career right now.
