Description
I don't expect that the Pens are going to be big players at the deadline but they're are definite changes required I'd they want to even begin to compete against the Metro teams that have just made some major improvements over the last few days.

That said, it is unrealistic that they will be able to maneuver around some of their worst contracts and even trading one may be farfetched. "IF" the pens could get out of one or two I'd hope they would be able to make changes to their third line which is in desperate need of a revamp. (No, Carter is not going to be traded and or scratched for obvious reasons)

Again, I doubt that Kap and or Dumo are even at play during the deadline but if they could hopefully they can attach them into trades that'll help in balancing the roster out a bit.

Why Mittelstadt? He's legitimately one of the worst players in the league

Remove Dumo, and maybe the Blues think about it.

no too both, giving up too much for Barbashev rental, you're also leaving 3M in cap.

What’s your thought process on buffalo adding the better pick?

He is not that bad. 24 yrs old, good faceoffs, on pace for 46 pts on 3rd line.

Three years ago, Kapanen had first round value.
Some pundits think because of his $3,200,000 producing only 6 goals this year, he is considered to have nutral value or less.

"Kapanen is a similar anti-trade chip. It would cost the Penguins an asset to move the 26-year-old winger with a $3.2 million cap hit through next season."

The Sabre could use help on defense, Ruhwedel may not be the answer as he has ONE pt in 31 games.

Since adding Jost to the line and moving the LW, Casey has rediscovered his game.

While some may disagree, a third line winger on pace to 46 pts is worth significantly more than an over paid RW and 7th defenseman.
Buffalo will not be adding a pick and the difference is more than a 7th.
As written Buffalo would most likely pass on this deal.

I'd rather have Kap than Middlestadt. Barbashev should be targeted though

Thanks for the replies. I wasn't sure regarding the Buf trade seeing that many fans had looked to move Middlestadt on the cheap before so I thought this could have been a Skuds for Dailey type scenario but seeing his current production, the trade wouldn't make much sense.

As for the Stl trade, the Pens will need to shed some cap and seeing that the Blues are likely going to be sellers now, they could take and flip Dumo (even Blueger) for additional assets if they wanted.

I'd prefer to allow both POJ and Smith get a chance as full timers and the additional cap flexibility allows the Pens to either resign and or bring in additional support next year without having to do cap gymnastics. If they want to spend to the cap, then sure they can go for it but there doesn't seem to be a need to bring in more money in at this point. (Especially how Rextall has paid some current players who are stuck on albatross deals)
