Description
Have no idea what Wilson's worth, whether you'd trade him or not.

Buffalo trade more of an example to recoup some Cap space for assets.

Caps have a lot of D to sign.

Sabres decline imo
With Wilson being signed for only 1 year after this, he doesn’t make much sense for us

And Savoie is nearly untouchable

Yeah I get it... if Wilson was longer term, would it be a consideration?

Savoie > Wilson, Plus it's extremely doubtful that Wilson would waive for Buffalo.

Trading Wilson just to sign Ryan Graves to a 6 mil contract and AA to a 3 mil seems incredibly foolish, especially when you could keep Wilson and Orlov for around the same price as you have spent on Graves, Athanasiou, and Sheary.

Yep. Or figure out a way to dump Mantha.

You're spending a lot of money on things not needed:
Tinordi
Graves
Athanasiou
Johansson
Sheary
Oesterle

Those are all players Caps don't need so you save a lot of money right there.

Probably not for Buffalo. He'll be 29 by the end of the season which doesn't really fit in with the rest of Buffalos core group. Tuch and Tage are currently the oldest players I'd consider core for the Sabres right now and Tuch is only 26, Tage is only 25, the rest are generally in that 20 - 23 year old range. He's just a couple years too old for their group.

Wilson, even extended would probably be more the type of player a win now team would be after, not a team like Buffalo who's window may not be for a couple more years if they put it all together. With his style of play he'll probably be on the decline when the Sabres would need him in his prime.

Among Sabres fans…. 100%
We’ve been wanting to get tougher- and tough guys with skill are hard to find available

Among our GM/management….
I think he’d be of interest enough to see what the cost would be, but we’d also look to see what else is out there- Meier, etc
And then make a decision based on cost vs player

Potential injury is an issue with his style of play though
Idk if that would scare us off, but it probably would take some teams out of the running for him

That said,
a team who is a legit contender for the Cup this year should be drooling at the chance to get him
He could play on any of the top3 lines for a team, & add value

First team that jumped to my mind was Colorado
But really, any team who thinks they have a chance to go far should want him
And asking a 1st + is completely reasonable to me as well

If there was an extension in place, say 3 years, then i think he’d be a consideration
But it’s entirely possible we’d decide that a guy like Meier would be a better fit & choose to go after him instead

I think this is right around the price for Wilson where the caps would seriously consider it ahead of next year's deadline, but also don't think Buffalo is the right team. As others have said though don't really understand the other moves
