Change of Plans- Vrana Recalled and Playoff Push

Created by: rednwhite
Team: 2022-23 Detroit Red Wings
Initial Creation Date: Feb. 14, 2023
Published: Feb. 14, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
David Pagnotta reported that the WIngs are calling up Vrana. I haven't seen it reported anywhere else yet but Pagnotta is pretty well connected. Some think a trade may be in the works but Detroit is sitting 5 points back of the last wild card spot and are 3-1 since the All Star Break. If Detroit can stay hot, I think Yzerman will let this group make a push for the playoffs instead of trading everyone away. This is my best guess of what the deadline will look like if Detroit is in the hunt in 3 weeks.

    Yes! Playoffs baby!

According to others it's better to lose and not make the playoffs. Apparently some of the greatest teams in NHL history await us in the first round. Death wish! How to we stop Gretzky or Mario? 🤭

What's our biggest weakness? Can't finish scoring chances. What does Vrana do? He scores goals! Imagine that! 🙂

I agree, this team needs something to play for. Time to build some culture and let the team make a push for playoffs instead of trading everyone away.

The playoffs should be of no concern to Yzerman or the fans. I don't want to see Bert or Vrana traded, but if there is a legit offer (1sts, A prospects, etc.), Yzerman will probably pull the trigger.

I'm sick of selling and I'm sick of missing the playoffs. Aren't you?

Yzerman has repeatedly said he wants to compete for a playoff spot. That's why he signed all those UFA's. That's his goal. He's not tanking. If we fall out of the playoff picture then of course we're selling.

But we're not out of the playoff picture at all right now.

I can't see anyone offering that type of package for Vrana or Bert based off of their 2023 seasons. A team may be desperate at the deadline but the most I see a team giving up is a late 2nd and a B prospect. I would rather hold onto Vrana and let him regain some trade value and resign Bertuzzi to a short term deal.

All Vrana has done in a Red Wings uniform is score goals. He's worth calling up and being given a chance.

LoL no one believed him when he said vrana had played his last game as a wing but now he says he's getting recalled and it has to be true. Make up your minds. When he gets recalled, then we can be happy. As far as playoffs go I think beating Vancouver twice in a week is great but let's pump the brakes until we start beating the teams ahead of us in the standings.

Just be careful with what Pagnotta says. Last week he was saying Vrana would never play another game for Detroit.

He's a flip-flopper hack trying to get clicks. Like Kypreos. "Suter to Detroit done deal." F you Kypreos!

    Ryan Suter. Not Pius. LOL

Ya Vrana is not worth trading now and I really hope he doesnt. I still expect him to be a major piece of this team moving forward for years to come.

Bert has several suitors and I expect the package to be pretty valuable. I hope he is signed long term as well.

I get that, but you want your GM to be realistic. There’s no way Detroit makes the playoffs this year. They’re not jumping over four teams.

It was also reported on Bleacher Report, So who's going on waivers now to accommodate Vrana? Sounds like both Raymond and Walman are fine and should play in one of the back to back games against the Oilers and Flames.

Raymond was placed on IR so we wont be back for another week or so. I'd imagine Detroit will look to make a trade in that time instead of losing someone to waivers.
