My Weegar to TOR Trade Attempt

Created by: KingofRnR
Team: 2022-23 Calgary Flames
Initial Creation Date: Feb. 16, 2023
Published: Feb. 16, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Spitballing it. How close or far am I lol!?

Could still upgrade Kerfoot and move him to 4LW

Liljegren becomes Tanev’s Future Replacement, making him expendable to pursue a Top-6 Forward and could either Re-Sign Holl or pursue Schenn for 3RD Duties in the off-season. Kerfoot will likely receive $4mil/yr+ from another Team via Free Agency, so walks

Has Weegar not worked out in Calgary so far?

I don't see the Leafs parting from Lily. Unless Andersson is coming back. And Calgary won't do that.

Weegar is a great player to be sure, but Llijegren is a non starter for the leafs, he's the future of their D

It’s fair but I’d rather just keep Kerfoot than add Lucic. But Liljegren is better than Weegar for sure.

Would love Weegar but not at the expense of Liljegren. Leafs would need to swap Rielly

Why have there been so many Weegar trades lately? Did he request a trade?

I honestly doubt Weegar gets moved. He’s been decent overall, but his offence has dropped off. Might be due to styles of play and playing against the Western Conference

Weegar’s from Nepean/Ottawa but maybe moving back to Ontario and Playing on a High Scoring Team like the Leafs will help him generate the offence he was producing in FLA

I know Liljegren is highly coveted but I figure the Leafs need to go all in so might want a guy with more experience. In order for CGY to move Weegar, we need a good player back and if that’s not Nylander, then I think it’s Liljegren + TOR’s 2023 late 1st

I think Brodie would be the one moved out in the off-season with the Leafs banking on Weegar & Connor Timmons and the signing a low cost shut down 3rd Pairing D-Man like Luke Schenn via Free Agency

Not that I’m aware of. Just Rumors and click bait probably

That said, perhaps both Weegar and the Flames mutually agree he’s a better fit on a High Scoring Eastern Conference Team and Toronto or Ottawa would be good landing spots for him so CGY can use his extension to pursue a much needed Top-6 Forward instead

He was certainly noticeable against us, the last few times, and not in a good way. Terrible term to boot

Leafs have no interest in Weegar's new contract. There isn't much logic in saying the Leafs save cap (a bit for this season) but those two "Florida" new contracts just might be the cap death of Flames for the rest of this decade,
Not appreciation of how well Liljegren has played.

He's been excellent defensively. People just like to listen to Pagnotta over Friedman

Yes, I remember you saying that more than a few times already.

Rather have Weegar at $6.25mil than say Klingberg at $7mil and those $6.25 and $10.5mil contracts won’t look near as bad in say 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 years from now.

Just like DeBrincat’s production dropped going to another team, I’m sure he will get back to his former offensive levels, so I’m confident Kadri, Huberdeau and Weegar will too

Time will tell though. We’ll just have to wait and see.

The trouble with Kadri and Huberneau is their age.....doubt if they ever be better than were before. We'll see if they are be much better than they are now. DeBrincat is younger and the Sens had injuries to their forwards, so DeBrincat has better chance of rebounding. I kinda feel sorry player (and their fans) when a player signs a big contract and just never can play to that high level again. Often GMs pay for what a player did in the past when he should be paying for what the player will do in the future.

I’m absolutely sure they factor age & future production in to their contract considerations, but CGY seems to have to a pay premium to secure players and they all want max term, so what do you do.

Here’s hoping they have good long productive careers like Pavelski, Ovechkin, Malkin, Wheeler, Bergeron, Krejci and all the other current & former 35+ year old players who were able to continue dangling around the young guys and maintain their positions on Top the Scoring Leaders Board 🤞
