Nah, that’s really not enough to move Peeke and Jenner, there’s high skill players but that’s not what Columbus is missing, they need more defensive defenseman like Peeke and losing their heart and soul player in Jenner would hurt them more then they are getting back.

Also one of the major issues with Columbus had been the lack of veteran leadership, moving their captain would I lessen the limited leadership group they already have.

This if off the cuff but comparably speaking the Canucks are a poor performing team and traded their captain. There will be a new C, predictably Petey, leading a new core. CBJ has obviously underwhelmed this year, would it be unrealistic that someone else takes over the captaincy (Weresnki?) as they aim to get to the playoffs soon but lead by a younger core? Similarly, Jok and Peeke seems neutral to me. But Ostlund, Portillo and a first seems a good return for Jenner.

I think the difference between Horvat and Jenner is that Horvat was an expiring UFA who was very clearly not being made a priority by management and Jenner was just named team captain and is in the first year a 4 year extension he signed last year. He's also credited with being an essential core piece of the leadership group by the management team in Columbus. They just finished moving on from a very rocky locker room situation in 2020-21 and they're already losing Gavrikov, Nyquist and probably Voracek from their leadership group too. The other leaders they have like Werenski or Gaudreau are more the soft spoken, lead by example types rather than the true captain type that Jenner is. There would have to be an immediate impact top 6 center in the 20-26 year old range that is signed to term coming back in a trade for the Jackets to consider trading Jenner right now. He's just too important to them to trade him for late 1sts or prospects that hopefully are 2nd line centers in 3-5 years.

Yeah that’s why I said unrealistic stunner. Because there’s a lot it depends on. I think it depends on what Jarmo thinks of Ostlund as a potential center prospect as well as what he thinks of Jiricek going forward in the next couple years, and Gudbranson is also playing a significant role on the Jackets right side at the moment, and if you think Jokiharju coming back is enough to offset Peeke going the other way until you see Jiricek obtain a substation top four role. It also depends on what Jenner wants to do, and likely wants to stay. But if behind the scenes he really wants out, then maybe it’s more feasible, although there’s a good chance he wouldn’t waive for Buffalo. But I think Jenner is a heart and soul guy and a stud, and a big physical center:wing who can take key draws, and he’s locked up at an affordable cap hit. I think he has immense value. Peeke just gives us a big physical defense also on a great contract to replace Jokiharju with since Buffalo clearly gets pushed around too much and needs more jam and ham in the lineup. Portillo is just a toss in, no real value there since he is a UFA. The equivalent value here might be two number ones and a second (Jokiharju). I agree, for two guys that are locked up on team friendly deals, it may need more of a kicker or two to get it done like another good prospect and a pick, but I do think it’s a fair start, but I do think it’s definelty what Buffalo needs.
