Ceci Buyout

Created by: Eberles_Backcheck
Team: 2023-24 Edmonton Oilers
Initial Creation Date: Feb. 21, 2023
Published: Feb. 22, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Ceci is a decent buyout option if the Oilers want to reshape their D core. Moving him would require some assets which are better served improving the roster.

Here are the cap hits:

23/24 - 83K
24/25 - 1.083M
25/26 - 1.33 M
26/27 - 1.33M

Virtually no cap hit in the first year, and hopefully once the cap increases are more significant, the remaining three years won't hinder the team much.

Man we already have one offensively skilled, right-handed defenseman that sucks in his own zone here in DC, we don't need need to add another

I know I know, I'd just rather re-sign the guys we have than take Barrie. Not sure he'd fit that well here

"WSH has no D signed after 2023" ... Yes the one D we do have signed is a better version of Barrie. Both guys are good at offense and terrible at defense. HARD PASS. we can just use that cap hit for an actual good d man and keep that pick

Whoops missed Carlson on LTIR. Doesn't have to be Washington, I just used them in this case.

Sharks will not retain that much for that return.

Ceci has value you would not need to buy him out.

Karlsson has been really solid defensively this year. Every cup champ the last few years has an elite defenseman in the roster. Makar, Hedman, Carlson (in his prime) Pietrangelo ( in his prime) Letang etc etc. Edmonton lacks a truly elite defenseman. They need to get serious while McDavid and Draisaitl are still super elite or they're just wasting it.

Should only be 3.45 (30%) for SJ with AZ retaining the other million 4.45 is the total. Forgot to note that in the trade.

What is Ceci? a number 4/5 Dman? He was solid last year but has really struggled this season IMO. I guess you could move him and retain if you had to so it's only 2 years instead of 4. I'm not sure he's moveable without moving out an asset.
