Trades
1.
WSH
  1. 2023 3rd round pick (COL)
  2. 2024 5th round pick (NYR)
NYR
  1. Eller, Lars ($1,750,000 retained)
Additional Details:
Eller would be a clear upgrade as a 4th line center for NYR, giving them a guy who PKs, great on FO and has been clutch in the past. Added the 5th for salary retention.
2.
VAN
  1. Mantha, Anthony
  2. 2023 4th round pick (WSH)
Additional Details:
Seen this trade be used on other Armchair-GMs. Think both guys need a change of scenery and both have great underlying numbers. Caps add in a pick due to salary differential and pending UFA status for Mantha next season.
3.
WSH
  1. 2023 4th round pick (MIN)
  2. 2024 3rd round pick (MIN)
MIN
  1. Sheary, Conor
Additional Details:
Good, versatile middle-six winger on an expiring cheap deal. Guerin knows him well from his time in Pitt and brings a championship pedigree. On pace for 18-ish goals this season despite a recent slump
4.
WSH
  1. Grans, Helge
  2. 2023 1st round pick (LAK)
LAK
  1. Orlov, Dmitry ($2,550,000 retained)
Additional Details:
Kings get an extremely underrated top-4 dman in Orlov that has the offensive and defensive metrics to prove it. Washington gets a first and a good D prospect in Grans for Orlov at half retained. Kings may look at Orly if Chychrun price is too high.
5.
WSH
  1. 2023 2nd round pick (EDM)
  2. 2024 2nd round pick (EDM)
EDM
  1. Jensen, Nick ($1,250,000 retained)
Additional Details:
Ken Holland knows Jensen really well. Brings similar things that Kulak does, who EDM acquired last year, but has better underlying numbers and has proven to be an effective shutdown top-4 D-man. 2024 2nd is included because of salary retention (would really be a 4th if no salary retained)
6.
WSH
  1. 2023 3rd round pick (TBL)
TBL
  1. Hathaway, Garnet
Additional Details:
Makes perfect sense for Tampa in their third line grit role. Teams will covet Hathaway which will drive price up. Tampa fails to meet STL price for Barbashev and pivot to Hath.
7.
WSH
  1. Meier, Timo
Additional Details:
Re-signs for 8yrs x 9.5 AAV
SJS
  1. Iorio, Vincent
  2. Lapierre, Hendrix
  3. 2023 1st round pick (WSH)
  4. 2023 2nd round pick (WSH)
  5. 2023 3rd round pick (COL)
Additional Details:
Washington uses the draft capital acquired from expiring UFAs to help get a star forward who is in the prime of his career for Ovechkin's goal chase and management's "go for it" mentality
8.
WSH
  1. 2023 3rd round pick (BUF)
  2. 2024 2nd round pick (VGK)
VGK
  1. Gustafsson, Erik
  2. Johansson, Marcus
Additional Details:
George McPhee drafted MoJo and Vegas has the cap space/need for versatile wingers with playoff experience (Boston 2019 Cup Run was one of their best players all playoffs). Gus has been a revelation this year and is extremely cost-effective. Can help bolster offense from VGK blueline.
9.
WSH
  1. 2023 5th round pick (FLA)
  2. 2024 3rd round pick (FLA)
FLA
  1. van Riemsdyk, Trevor
Additional Details:
Great depth d-man who will help stabilize Florida's shaky d-corp.

Why would Los Angeles be looking at an expensive UFA in exchange for the Kings' precious 2023 first?

Rob Blake has never been a guy with a short-term outlook.

I like Orlov, but that’s too expensive for a rental. WA might be able to pull that off but not with LA as a trade partner.

This leaves us with too many expensive wingers and I think Boston, Edmonton and maybe Toronto are more realistic suitors for Orlov, but overall I think the returns are fair.
