Drouin has zero goals this year. You want to trade for that scrub?

It's worse than that...he has 8 in his last 112 games over 3 seasons. Only a Habs fan can think he has any trade value at all.

In the current market post Tarasenko and O'Reilly trades and with Toews on IR, a healthy Monahan would easily fetch a 1st. As I said, a healthy Monahan.

Yeah but he isn't healthy and is a massive risk just because he's healthy doesn't mean he's worth a first as a team won't pay that for damaged goods. Also you're asking for 2 first for that return with a the prospect I think you should be happy with any return at this point as you already got a first to take him. Imo best return is maybe a 4th with the Condition to make a 3rd if he plays in 50% of playoff games. GL getting that. That's why it's sad because everyone knows he's not worth that but mtl agms who fixate on what he did 3 months ago and assume a team would pay that for what he did then. If he was healthy all season and played like this then the 2nd with conditions for a 1st is somewhat reasonable but he hasn't. The deadline is in 8 days. With the claim on teirney shows that he may be out past the deadline. Also mtl only has 4 Games left before deadline and that's if he plays TOMORROW. Here's the issue with that mtl ain't gonna put him in to show teams what he is rn as for Monahan that is really bad for his future as coming back too early and getting injured again will seriously after his future contracts and stability in the league. I think that he would rather play it safe and ensure that he can be effective the rest of season in mtl and try to get a show me deal to prove that he still can be effective while not being injured for more than half the year. To basically conclude Monahan is not worth the 1st due to risk (why give up a 1st for a guy who may not even play) and saying that he is just makes everyone annoyed because everyone has come to the conclusion Similar to mine so why haven't the agms who's team he's on come to that as well.

You said: "you should be happy with any return at this point as you already got a first to take him"

This is by far the most irrelevant comment someone can make about Monahan. It's not about the price it cost to acquire him (in that case Habs didn't pay for him but got paid to take him), his value is all about his future contribution to another team.

I also said "a healthy Monahan" and that's the issue: we didn't get any official information about his health status.

Yeah and guess what Monahan has done very little in establishing himself as something else than what he was in Calgary. Sure he had a bounce back in terms of a short term stint of success but still has the same issue with him not being reliable enough to Warrant a team sacrificing major futures for a guy that can't stay healthy. The return for Monahan was that first they got to take him and whatever else they get should be seen as a bonus. The fact is any team acquiring him knows that he may not have an impact with his injury history. Would you give up a 3rd for kase in Carolina? No because a players history of injuries is taken into account for their value and getting someone you are unsure would be healthy tanks that value. The point is its not based on what he could bring its based on whether he even brings as he has had major injury issues and bringing that in for a large cost can hurt when you pay the price and get nothing for him production wise. Teams would rather trade for players that have more certainty around them. We should not say a healthy Monahan returns this as he won't and is more of a pipe dream. Teams would look elsewhere for deadline acquisitions. Also I know you're going to bring up scarcity and deadline prices which is fair argument to say but same issue arises when you are trading a guy that the team is unsure what version they are getting. Why pay that when he could come back a different player that is nowhere near that cost? Your whole valuation is based on what he did 3 months ago in a situation he unlikely get with a contender (most likely he's a 3rd liner in most case with some expectations). The fact is his value is not what it was when he was playing well as guess what he's injured. Basing return off performance from 3 months ago is silly and that again risking Monahans health for assets doesn't seem like a very humitable thing to do. Monahan just doesn't have the value you think but then again I'm not saying he's not moving but with the risks aforementioned the return will reflect it. This is why a 4th that can upgrade to a 3rd makes sense as he has been injured for 3 months and gives each team something. Montreal gets a pick for a player that has injury history and not a bad one considering he could test fa. The acquiring team gets a guy who could be a good depth building option with some upside to get more than paid for but also if not pays a pick lower to reflect that. Monahan gets the chance to show what he brings to a contending team and boost his value league wide. Overall he has value but setting realistic value on him will make it less annoying on those that have to pit up with trades that don't make sense value wise. Adieu
