Kapanen has a cap hit of 3.2 million until 2024.

Zaitsev has a cap hit of 4.5 million until 2024.

Both Kapanen and Zaitsev were placed on waivers this season.

It cost Ottawa's 2023 2nd + Ottawa's 2026 4th to dump Zaitsev.

It will cost Pittsburgh's 2023 2nd + nothing else to dump Kapanen IMO.

Currently, Ottawa's 2nd is higher than that of Pittsburgh's.

I agree it's not worth it for PIT, but I also think the Hawks starting point is still a 2nd...and the PIT can make the decision. Tyler Johnson, Jason Dickinson, Nakita Zaitsev...a 2nd rounder seems to be the starting point for any cap being dumped on the Hawks. Ultimately, KK just stays in PIT or they find a different partner.

A waiver claim would be ideal, but nobody wants to take on that cap hit, despite him being a fun player to watch.

I think Pittsburgh should just eat it, miss the playoffs, actually use a first round pick for a change, and retool in the offseason.
