These all heavily favor the Wings.

That package of Sundqvist + Kubalik + 4th just netted you Kevin Fiala

We have 16 forwards on the roster now, so why would we trade one (Byfield) for another (Bertuzzi), especially when all 9 of our top-9 slots are filled? (Never mind the first and second, or the fact that Bertuzzi is a UFA and Byfield is our anticipated #1C of the future.)

All teams not named Detroit pass.

Byfield+LAK 2024 1st round pick+LAK 2023 2nd round pick > Tyler Bertuzzi.

Faber+MN 2023 1st round pick > Kubalik+Sundqvist+DET 2024 4th round pick

Edmontons 2023 2nd round pick > Pius Suter.

Kings aren't doing that. Suter gets a 3rd. Minny isn't trading a 1st for that.

Stranger things have happened in trades, but Byfield for Bertuzzi would be terrible for the Kings.

The Minny trade needs work.

Suter to Edmonton for a 2nd? Yeah, with prices high and KH at the helm, I could see it being a 2nd that becomes a 1st if the Oilers make the final.

I assumed the Bert trade would come with an extension.

I agree it would be bad for the kings but look at what Tampa gave up for Jeannot.

The Minny trade, i just picked the first RD prospect I saw. Probably not gonna be Faber.

Kenny Holland liable to give Detroit a 1st and a prospect for Suter

It doesn't make any difference if he comes with a $2.5 million AAV extension; we're not trading Quinton Byfield for him even up.

Tampa had a specific need and they targeted Jeannot. JBB said he knows the numbers when it comes to projecting what those picks will become. Those picks can't help him win Cups right now. Jeannot can. He's going to ride his core until the end and keep kicking the future can down the road.

Think of the movie Thelma and Louise. Tampa is flying over the Grand Canyon right now and it's beautiful. But someday that car has to land and it'll be all over. But until then it's ride or die baby!

JBB and Stamkos are in the car. Tampa's future is chasing them.

The return you propose from LA is far greater of an overpay than the later 1st and bucket of other picks they gave up for a decent depth guy.

I get that, but who’s to say other teams aren’t thinking the same. “We’re one guy away from a cup right now.”

I bet lots of teams are thinking that. Especially in the weak west where if you add the right player you can go on a run. The East teams will beat the snot out of each other and the team who emerges might not have anything left in the tank in the SCF.

Boston will have to make sure they get a sweep in the first round.

So you think Detroit is 1 player away from a cup?

Not at all. I’m saying I’m sure there are teams in the league that think they are a Tyler Bertuzzi away from a cup, which is why I could see a team overpaying for him. The “quote” was speaking for other teams.

I don’t see Minnesota trading a 1st for that, let alone adding prospects they really like.
