The Mediocre Jets in 2023-24

Created by: Benzino204
Team: 2023-24 Winnipeg Jets
Initial Creation Date: Mar. 3, 2023
Published: Mar. 3, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Now that the deadline passed, and Kevin Cheveldayoff did the bare minimum like usual, let me take you to the future.
It's July 31, 2023, Kevin Cheveldayoff trades PLD to Montreal like he requested, and he tells the media and the fans the team is committed to winning, and signs nothing but plugs, using platitudes to try and convince the fanbase to believe the b.s he spews. Welcome to Jets fandom

Habs might not do it tbh - they will wait for him to become an UFA

Like David Ettedgui argued, MTL wont give more for Dubois than NYR gave for Kane.

You can trade him somewhere else for a 1st+. MTL is just going to wait another year and try to sign him as a UFA without wasting top value assets.

Ultimately depends on where the Florida pick ends up. If they end up making the playoffs and it’s in the 16-20 range, then sure. Kinda like when Gorton got Trouba for the Rangers and everybody knew Trouba was gonna sign there when he became a UFA the next year. If the pick is in the 10-15 range I’m not doing this trade.

They could, but I think that if the deal is reasonable (as in this case) they do it. The more you wait, the greater the chance another team convinces him to sign elsewhere.

Kane is a decade older, is making 4 million more than PLD and only wanted to play for a team with very little cap room. You got a prospect, a 1st, and a 4th for Ben Chairot, so Winnipeg could absolutely get something like that from Montreal, who would also need to move out some bodies to fit PLD in

Free is better. like I added to my first comment, go ahead and trade him somewhere else for a 1st+.

I'd just offersheet PLD for 1 giving him a Full NMC
Make it 8.4m and its enough return to make it worth not matching when they cant shop him thanks to the NMC.
MTL has not interest in moving PLD if we get him so giving him a NMC isnt that big of a deal as long as terms not attached.

IF WPG matches they buy themselves a year but F themselves cap wise ,there's no way .
They'll get a 1st a 2nd and 3rd round pick for PLD not matching versus keeping him as a rental bascially as he hits UFA status right after .

MTL gives up a lot but we might get PLD cheaper as i suspect Slafkovsky-PLD-Anderson is going to be one heck of a Physical Goalscoring line behind Caufield-Suzuki- RHP.
Either way MTL wins especially if they screw WPG cap wise next year as it will ensure annymosity between Dubois and WPG management leaving 1 less person offering him money for us to match.

Beyond disappointing. We have a 2 year window to make a run and Chevy decided to do basically nothing.

I understand being disappointed in the TDL, but making bad trades in the summer won't help that. The Jets won't be taking back a bad contract in a PLD trade, especially without being compensated to do do as you have them doing here.

Yet the best team in the league who broke the record for quickest team to 100 points added a top four defenseman, a top nine winger, and a grinder to an already great team. Chevy is a tentative, terrible G.M

Lets try a new tactic , VAN fans are saying to move JT before his NMC kicks in (Which WPG can choose not to honor)
They'd be willing to take this package for JT Miller

Would JT Miller for PLD work ?
VAN wants Assets right ?
WPG needs someone to replace what they lose in PLD and Miller may be i think like 2-3 years older but his career highs are way higher then PLD's(1 point shy of being 100 point player)
MTL gets PLD

No, I can't see the Jets having any interest in JT Miller for a few reasons. First, his extension is bad. Second, he seems to be a bad lockerroom personality. The Jets just fixed their dressing room and don't need to bring in someone that was feuding with Horvat. Third, everyone knows he'll never get near his career year numbers again and still be heading into his declining years. Fourth, I doubt the Jets will want to get older if they move Dubois.

Without retention, which Vancouver isn't likely to do, it just doesn't work. The Jets do have to honor his NTC though now as far as I know, which is another negative.

well there goes that idea lol
Miller's personallity off ice i dont know anything about
On ice though he plays 20 min with 55% win rate and 94 goals and 271 points in 262 games with VAN.
He just keeps getting better at Center and i figured despite his contract it might work if there the team didnt have to honor his NMC
Where they do that changes things a lot as now they have limited options going into his mid 30s on an 8m dollar deal
