Unpopular moves to retool

Description
Teams that I’m trading are examples only to make the trades work. Not sure he gets all this done, but think the prices are relatively fair.

Leaves just under $4.5M to cover bonus overages. If Donnie figures out a way to remove those, then that money can go to improving 3rd line center OR keeping Coyle so there is familiarity on each line.

Also assumes Bergy comes back, which my gut is no, but if not, I think Krejci on a Czech line makes it likely he wants to come back again. So, assumption is one of them returns in a team friendly deal.

If not, Bs are pretty weak down the middle with little options.

Think Stanley cup winning 3rd line center that is going to be a key part in winning that cup. Coyle is very good at what he does. 1st and 3rd is probably a little high though. Would be likely at TDL though.

I read the description. You said you think the prices are relatively fair. They’re not. Coming from a bruins fan.

It’s a lot high. Future considerations is probably a smidge optimistic.

Coyle is top 90 in non PP points in the league while logging the most SHTOI on the best PK team in the league. Good face offs too.
He allows Bergeron to not have to take the tough assignments every shift.
Boston won’t trade him anyway

What specifically. Taking out the teams the trades are to

There’s a lot here man. Grzelcyk is a little too much, Carlo is a bit too little, but then there are a couple things that stick out as whacky.

1. The coyle trade. It’s just ridiculous. Maybe someone will take him, but a 23 first + is absurd.
2. Orlov contract. Cmon
3. Clifton contract. Cmon.
4. Buying out miller.

Then you can get into the weird, like lohrei going from NCAA to the NHL, and Forbort playing his off-side, but i guess that’s sort of besides the point here.

Think that the Cap exists and the Avs aren’t trading their only pick in 2 drafts for an overpaid old guy to be in their bottom 6. This is MTL-esque bad.

That's all well and good. But at his cap hit and term, he's not getting a 1st round pick +

I don't mean to be rude, but... "top 90"? That's what we are talking about now? C'mon, man...

I didn’t say it would take a first to acquire him. You said it would take a first to move him. Maybe if you can’t figure out top 90 in points for a defensive forward you shouldn’t be commenting
6th in ice time on a historic team but maybe you know better from your couch.

Before I rip into this, I love where your head is at here and I can see Sweeney trying to do something very similar this offseason. "Unpopular Moves" is a great title for this post.

Trades first:
Grz, unfortunately, doesn't warrant a first – probably a 2nd and 3rd at most (likely a 2nd and conditional 5th). The guy is unreal at what he does, but Boston won't get a first for him. Carlo absolutely wouldn't garner a 1st either, based solely on his concussion history. His contract is team-friendly which means that the Bs could see two 3rds OR a 2nd & 6th. But, I can't see Carlo getting traded. Coyle would probably net a B-grade prospect, a 3rd, and a 5th at a '24 or '25 TDL – he has an 8-team NTC and those 8 teams are probably the ones that would want him in the offseason and ONLY happens if he wants out.
Grz is only getting traded if Orlov resigns. Coyle isn't getting traded – as you note in the description, the Bs, even with Bergy back don't have enough depth down the middle to trade him, unless they're really trying to tank.
IF cap space is the reason you're trying to trade Carlo and Coyle, get rid of Reilly and Zboril instead, that brings 1.9 in cap space – but, you can't buy them out. Honestly, I have no idea what the market looks like for them in the offseason. There was a rumor before TDL that a contender in the East wanted Reilly, but Sweeney was unwilling to trade him to a potential 1st round matchup (maybe PIT).

Signings:
Sweeney's strength is getting team-friendly deals.
Frederic's contract is a bit much, but the term is correct – I'd look at more of a 2x1.75mil (this is his last year as an RFA). Swayman is an RFA until he turns 25 (which is the end of the '24 season) – so Sweeney will either sign him to a long-term contract or a 2-year max contract to see Ullmark's deal through. Lauko's is great wishful thinking – it'll be 3x850k+ (or more if he plays a bunch in this year's playoffs and does well). Orlov's $ isn't right for that amount of years – he only signs at 4.5 if he's getting 5 to 6 years. Clifton is going to go get a 5x2-3.5mil deal and the Bs won't pay that for the 27yr old, especially if he does Cliffy Hockey type stuff in the playoffs this year.
Bergy returning would be huge, and as you note, that probably won't happen if they win the cup. Krejci is playing better than he did before leaving for Czechia last season, but I can't really see him returning – the playoffs will be brutal on both of those guys.
Nosek is absolutely getting another deal – probably 3x2/2.5mil. Again, depth at Center is critical and Sweeney loves giving out these kinds of deals (sometimes bigger than necessary) to keep players like Nosek.

FA signings:
Keep an eye on Scott Mayfield. He's 30 years old, 6'5, and an RD. If Lou can't get him signed and if Orlov and Cliffy walk, I can 100% see Sweeney making him a 4-5yr, 3mil contract. He'd be a great pairing for Lohrei or Grz to play with on the right side. A Forbort trade would likely be necessary to make that happen – especially if Lohrei can slot into the lineup and be an everyday guy.

Lineup:
Beecher will absolutely get a shot in the bottom 6 and so will Marc McLaughlin (who'll probably sign a 3x925k contract). Merkulov will also absolutely get a shot at cracking the lineup.
Nitty gritty here, but you've got Forbort on his offside, which he doesn't do particularly well on – aside from long PK situations.
