Price being LTIR doesn't hurt us, and yes Armia is overpaid but not to the point where we'd dump a top 40 pick to get rid of him

Why would CHI give up Regula and a 3rd in that MTL deal?

To get an early 2023 2nd round pick
MTL pass big time anyway

I get that MTL isn't in need of moving those contracts, but if they were, they would have to pay CHI to take them on. So, sending nice pieces like Regula and a 3rd makes zero sense.

You took Mrazek contract and only jumped a couple spots
Anyway you seem high on Regula so just remove him from the trade

You`re wrong. Teams don`t send picks for contracts. It`s the opposite if a team would want the Price contract they would send something in retuen. Similar to what happened with Shae Webber. Habs got Dadonov for the Weber contract

Since Montreal is rebuilding it will hurt them as far as absorbing bonus money. If they want to be competitive in 2 years Price’s cap hit will be a huge detriment

And the 3rd round pick. Even then, a 2nd round pick isn't enough to take on all that salary. CHI jumped up 13 spots into the 1st round, which is a completely different scenario. Also, CHI needed a mediocre goaltender for the tank this season.

I am not wrong. That is something contender teams sometimes do to add to their LTIR pool, which is what vegas did with Webber's contract they also sent Dadonov's unwanted contract to MTL in the same transaction, both clearing cap space and giving them a larger amount by which they were able to exceed the salary cap. That has value to a contending team who is up against the cap. A rebuilding CHI team isn't paying to take on anyones dead cap and bad contracts. That just isn't how that works.

These are pretty good, I just don't think Montreal cares to actually move Armia or Price right now.

I mean, you're talking jumping from the late 3rd round to the early 2nd round. I get why Chicago wouldn't do it (even if Regula probably doesn't matter much for Montreal considering they may need to get close to the contract limit with prospects coming from Europe and the NCAA), but its not like going from a pick in the 80s to 90s to a pick in the late 30s to early 40s is insignificant.

If you consider the proposal is asking CHI to take on almost $35M in bad/dead salary over the next four years, then yes jumping from the late third to the early to mid 2nd is pretty insignificant. If MTL fans truly think that is reasonable, I really don't know what to tell y'all. But you'll have to go find some other sucker to take on your garbage for nothing.

I don't think any Montreal fan really cares about the Price contract. Lets not pretend its immovable, moving insured LTIRetired contracts is not that expensive.

Montreal doesn't really care about moving Armia's contract either, it'll be finished by the time Montreal would even need cap space. It makes more sense for them to hope he finds his game and becomes a rental trade option in a couple of years.

And that's the point, Montreal doesn't care too much about moving those pieces. It would be nice to get out of LTIR triggered overages by moving Price, but there's a decent chance Montreal can do that without trading Price. You want to extract maximum value for taking salary? Find a team that cares about moving salary out.

My idea here is that it gives Chicago an easy way to stay above the cap floor without having to take on literal skill. That's a win for the Hawks, as well as the Habs, who have been frequently near the ceiling. Voracek and Weber are recent examples of LTIR players having pretty much no value difference to teams.

Armia also helps with this, and provides some veteran assistance to grow Chicago's younger players. Still, his contract is bad, and it's a lot of money. The difference should slant to the Hawks, but not significantly because the money is mostly dead. Perhaps the inclusion of Regula here is unnecessary, but I think you're using the wrong comparable if you believe a *massive* return is needed to take money that largely doesn't impact you roster in any negative way.

Sure. I get the premise. Even without Regula, though, this doesn't work. Even without both Regula AND the 3rd, it doesn't make sense. I'm not even suggesting a massive return, just a fair value one. This is not even remotely close to fair value. If you are a team owner or GM and you think moving up 32 spots into the early first round is worth $35M, you probably shouldn't own a team or manage one. There is zero reason to do this from CHI's standpoint, there are much better ways for them to get to the salary floor.

Chicago has been patient with Mitchell. It looks like next year he will have a chance to be a regular, why bail on him now.

Im not overly excited about him, he skates well and has a decent shot with offensive vision.. id say give him more time. But with the D depth coming he will have to earn that spot.

He reminds me of Gustav Forsling.
