Not sure that the current last place team wants to trade a 1st round pick for anyone this year

I think it's unlikely Cam Atkinson get's bought out. We arent gonna spend to the cap, and he's valuble to have as a leader for the younger kids. He's also hopefully still a good player, if he can maintain some sort of scoring he might be a trade piece down the road.

I wouldnt deal Laughton unless a team is paying a high price, once again he provides leadership.

Philly should target a 23' First if they're gonna trade Konecny

I mean the last place team has been absolutely decimated by injuries, They're not as bad as their record. Their also gonna be getting one of Bedard/Fantilli likely where they are basically now in debt to be a competive team every year

Yes but how good would they be if they picked up another piece in the middle late first round of this draft

I mean you have to wait on average 3 years at least for a first round pick to pan out, and the likelihood of the player becoming still isnt 100%, It makes more sense to trade for a player with the first because you have a very good player on an ELC for a few years, you should take advantage of that Cap flexibilty.

I mean maybe a team that couldn't fit Hayes but now can at half retained pays more but Columbus doesn't need that help so they won't part with a 1st for him when they don't need to.

I’m not going to speak to the value of the LA trade, but I don’t think it works. They already have a log jam of forwards and this makes it worse when they can still keep Turcotte in Ontario for another year. This would also be bad asset management if they make this deal instead of just signing Korpisalo. The same can be said about getting Provorov at the expense of losing Gavrikov that LA already spent draft capital on. I don’t see the motivation from LA’s perspective.

But paying for a player who is past his prime and you know wont be good in 3 years is also a big risk, I think that how CBJ is positioned rn, they could go for another tank year if they wanted then JUMP up when Jiricek and their 1st rounders from this year and (Korchinski?) make the jump

I don't disagree with you on Atkinson, I just think in a rebuild why do you want a 33 year old player in your top 6 who might actually make the team better now but won't be around when your ready to contend. I guess on the flip side, if he comes back healthy he might have value at the deadline. I actually don't want them to trade TK at all, I just get the argument for trading him, so I decided to build a deal, I think if you plan on moving Provy and TK this offseason they could potentially be packaged to return a blockbuster type return.

I'll echo @Jfstompers in saying that I don't think that "freeing up" cap space is a priority for a team that has 18 NHL players under contract for next season and less than $62 million in cap hits. I don't see them spending that extra first on Hayes.

Travis Konecny is a very fine player but Los Angeles has a logjam at forward and the needs are at LhD and in goal. Cal Petersen isn't a cap dump at $1 million in 2024-2025 and $2 million in 2025-2026. And I think that the controversy-averse LA front office won't be interested in Ivan Provorov. In short, Sanheim and/or Hart might be on our horizon, but not Konecny and Provorov. As my esteemed friend @MNKingsFan says, this is a poor fit for Los Angeles.

Past his prime?? He's currently having one of the best years of his career. (The 2nd best)

Also fun fact this is the NHL, a team that has a chance to be good isnt just gonna tank. It's also not needed CBJ already has a Top 5 Prospect pool, they'll be set with the picks they have.

And Korchinski plays for the BlackHawks???

They are absolutely not tanking next year. They weren't tanking this year either. This was supposed to be a development year and the team was expected to get around 80-90 points. They just got incredibly injured and their goaltending fell apart, so they lucked into being in contention for a top pick.

Jiricek, Voronkov and a high pick will all be joining the team next year, plus Werenski and Texier will be back healthy. Korchinski is a CHI prospect, maybe you're thinking of Mateychuk or Ceulemans who could be joining the big club in one-two years. If the goaltending can just be average next year, the expectation for this team should be pushing for 90 points.

Jarmo said as soon as he acquired the LAK 1st that it was available, and they've tried to package it for a 2LD. They have a surplus of assets if he wants to go that route, or they could even go after a UFA on a short-term deal.

They have a D who they drafted that year who starts with a D, but isn’t he in his 30’s? I dont think they should be shelling 1st rounders for him
