SJ LAND Bedard SIGN Bertuzzi MoJo Fast Holl TRADE Ferraro YOUTH at LD

Created by: CheechYou
Team: 2023-24 San Jose Sharks
Initial Creation Date: Mar. 14, 2023
Published: Mar. 14, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Keep Vlasic instead of buying him out. One, he's still a decent bottom-pairing dman and has actually has progressed in each of the last two seasons from his abysmal season in 2020-21. Two, the buyout penalty would still be too long -- why buy him out when you don't need to? Three, he's good depth in case of injury to a LDman (and the younger AHL guys like Kniazev/Okhtyuk aren't ready) and/or if Thrun struggles at some point in the season, which seems likely. Although, even then, Kniazev can be a Mukhamadullin replacement if Mukhamadullin struggles and needs a year.

11 out of the starting 18 skaters at the start of this season would be replaced here -- only 7 of the 18 would be the same opening night starters from 2022-23 to 2023-24. This team is young, high-energy, and with really interesting guys who have big talent potential who can thrive if proper UFAs are brought in to support them to flourish by not making them do too much, which can stagnate or severely adversely impact their development.

    Additional Details:
Doesn't have to be CAR, but one would think that CAR would be down to take on a year of Labanc with Svech gone the first part of next season at least with the torn ACL and Patches likely not being resigned. If not, another team likely takes a chance on him for cheap.

Considering there is a mutual interest between Patches and the Canes to re-up, it’s a rather safe assumption that Patches resigns with the Canes.

Why would LA add a 2nd round pick to that trade? At best it's a 1-for-1 swap.

lol you think San Jose would trade a 24 yo with 3 more years for a soon to be 29 yo with 1 year on his deal 1 for 1? That’s awful.

I don't think the Kings would trade for Ferraro at all.

For this ask? Why wouldn't they?

Grier has to be looking at Bertuzzi. Guy who has skill and grit, something they’ve stated they need. I could see them going for Gudas on the back end, not sure either want to come to San Jose though

He's not better than the options they already have. If they're adding a defenseman, they want someone with size. That's why they traded for Gavrikov.

I'm not saying he will. I'm saying that if he does walk and the Kings look for a new LHD, it's going to be for a larger human than Ferraro.

Muk likely won't be ready and it's too early in the rebuild to go after free agents

Bert will want more term. Yzerman offered Bert four years, but Bert's camp wouldn't accept it so they parted ways.
