Since the Habs are not regularly playing Galch at center--which they really should be--and getting Drioun I assume he will be sent out of town for an older defender and a pick.

Based on some of the rumors being floated I think it is likely Hjalmarsson.

Galchenyuk + 8 firsts for Dany Heatley

Okay, but seriously. Galchenyuk's rights would be worth either Giroux (Galchenyuk + MTL's 1st round pick, no conditions) or maybe even for a younger guy possible the Nuge (Galchenyuk for the Nuge and possibly a 2nd or 3rd with no conditions)

The Nuge trade would make decent sense, but another possible 1C for them is maybe even good 'ol David Backes. That signing was really just a panic move by the Boston GM since Krejci and Bergeron are already GREAT top 6 C's for them, and Backes is too good to be getting third-line minutes. (Galchenyuk + cond. 3rd for Backes?)

Nuge trade would make sense. I agree. I can't help but laugh when you refer to him as "The Nuge".

Why the hell would Mtl trade a younger 30 goal scorer in Galchenyuk for an older 2nd liner in Stepan that is overpaid then give up more assets for Stepan lol

he will be traded for a defensemen when they just traded two puck movers in Sergahev and Beaulieu in the last week.

Giroux and Stepan are in the downturn of their career and Flyers, Rangers fans clearly overvalue them like they are actually great players that can fetch potential #1 centre at 23 years of age.

Minnesota clearly needs to trade a defensemen.

Galchenyuk for Matthew Dumba and Eric Staal, that would make the most sense as the Wild could lose either one for nothing as both were left unprotected by the Wild in the draft. Great deal for both teams as Canadiens get a possible top pair young DMAN in Dumba for a potential top line centre and you throw in Staal as a short term number 1 centre although older for a small cup run. Eric Staal does not have much value when you can expose him for nothing in the expansion draft, the Wild know the Knights will not take a 33 year old centre when they have Scandella and Dumba to choose. Their Dmen will be traded and Galchenyuk will be traded.

This isn't rocket science, you fill need for need. Not giving away your garbage in Stepan when the Rangers need to shed salary for Shattenkirk and get a cheaper younger number 1 centre. lol @ Rangersfans Enjoy that Girardi buyout your team is screwed, gonna lose Raanta for nothing and you wont be gifted talent like Alex Galchenyuk for your garbage overpaid players like Stepan, Girardi and crappy Staal brother

Knowing Bergevin, it will be Galchenyuk, Emelin or Plekanec (cap balance), and a pick/prospect or two for Stastny and Bouwmeester.
We get older and trade away a former 1st round pick. So it checks off MB's first two requirements.
One was born in Quebec and the other has at least some "character", so he also hits the trifecta with this trade.
Stastny will be signed for 7x7 immediately.

That would be an awful trade but I can see that trade happening because of the Quebec factor and MOAR big factor instead of the craziness of taking Stepan. Might as well trade Carey Price for Henrik Lundqvist with that logic.

Montreal doesn't' need another winger like Kane though. Stepan might be their best bet.

I'd trade him to Vegas for a defenseman. Vegas will be the team in the league most desperate for scoring help, and won't be attached to any of the defenders they choose.
