They can't afford Eddy short of double retention. TBs off season is Jeannot, Colton and 900k fill in. So no it's not happening. Btw how many times does Julien Brisebois have to say Alnfelt isn't available before people believe him.
I dont care about Alnfelt , never will ... We develop our own goalies regardless of what our fans think we wont trade for one unless its to back up one of our drafted or undrafted prospects we developed into starting NHL players. You'd have to go back the Huet and Thibault to find examples of times we ignored that rule and it was sooo bad for sooo long . Our fans just dont know crap about any system not in the NHL so they're in a panick over goaltending without a clue. We got the 3rd best Tandem in the SHL with Dichow who's 21 and grown into a credible option. Dobes is 2 years out but once he's ready is another solid Tandem prospect with odds of being a Fringe Starter outside a Tandem. (Same as Primeau) and we got Croteau a Metis Goaltender with Price like Size who took the US path to develop . He's set to Debut at Clarkson U in the NCAA after winning both a Provincial and State Championship in the past few years on his path to the NCAA via the NAHL then the USHL.
All these pieces are interesting for the same reasons NSH found value in Rinne , Saros, Vejmelka and Lindback from 4th to 8th rounds .
That said NSH essentially went 4/24 in drafting goalie over 25 drafts including many Goalies taken much higher but despite the high turnover they always profited in the long run.
Losing Mason for peanuts hurt but moving his mentor Vokoun for what stands as the highest return for a Goalie i can find , thats where NSH cashes in .
Its also why they could afford to let Rinne retire on his terms not forcing a trade like they did with Vokoun , Mason , Ellis , Hutton ,ext .
MTL's best bet is to invest in their youth and develop them right .
If one overachieves quickly like 4th round Saros who debuted at age 21 then you move out a Ellis for a profit .
Sold
Double RS can be done
You'll have to split the difference with us though
So the 3rd and Myers goes up to include a 6th or 7th round pick
MTL will pay the 4th that seems to be the going rate for double RS
Even at lets say 3rd , 6th round picks and Myers both teams still win .
We got AHL creases we need cleared and dont want to make Mailloux that guy next years
Myers gives us an out to help shield Mailloux and Primeau's growth
