Hirvonen and a 3rd doesn’t even get you Martinook, let alone Pesce. Pesce also almost certainly won’t sign a 3x4.5 contract.

Canes could get a better goalie at 4+ mil without giving up an important piece to their d core and one of the best leaders on the team. Hirvonen and a late 1st doesn't interest them for what they're giving up. Plus Pesce would get more than that in an extention.
