Lets all agree DeBrincat is gone

Created by: Beargold
Team: 2023-24 Ottawa Senators
Initial Creation Date: Apr. 3, 2023
Published: Apr. 3, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Hamonic can step in if JBD can't handle the 3RD role, or even have Brannstrom switch to 3RD and bring up Kleven. Left Kleven in AHL to let him develop another year rather than being stuck at 3LD; especially with Branny playing well.

Keeping Tkachuk and Norris together, but Norris can slot back to 2C if he doesn't pan out on 1RD or if Pinto falters at 2C. Hoping Ostapchuk does well at 3C (I've heard positive things about him as a middle-6 potential so we will see). If it isn't working, could send him to the AHL, slot Grieg as 3C and have Jarventie come in as LW relief.

Need cap? Trade Joseph. Resigned Watson to help punch people in the mouth when they bully us.

I’d you are gonna move norris to wing. Trade Debrincat to the capitals and we will give you Kuzy retained and other things.

NSH is going to add a 1st and maybe more, Cat in a "off" year still has 26G and 62P has far more value than a G, no mater who that G is, G are not worth remotely close to what everyone here think they are, the position is to unpredictable to trade prime assets.

Yeah, I saw some of your posts about getting DeBrincat for folks like Lappy, Iorio, Kuzy, or Mantha! I just figured Saros would address a glaring hole for Ottawa whereas forwards (or even another D prospect) aren't as big priorities for the Senators.

That being said, I'm not wholly against the idea of getting Iorio as part of a return for DeBrincat.

Honestly, I'm glad the problem is I undervalued DeBrincat in this one. As a Sens fan it is hard to not be biased!

people here overvalue assets, everyone thinks they are going to get the moon for their players in a trade and that RARELY ever happens, look at 2 OTT trades in the last year, Cat and Chych, both CHI and ARI got far less than what EVERYONE though they would get for said 2 players and considering OTT got raped in the Gus for Talbot trade, no chance OTT trades anything more than a 2nd and or B- prospect for another G

Poile isn't giving up Saros for DeBrincat who could walk in 1 year, Nashville's main core is aging with Duchene and Johansen they'll probably at least need to do some retooling.

In the signed RFA section it shows that DeBrincat would be signed for 8x8 prior to trading him. Should, in theory, help take out some of that uncertainty involved in the trade. Whether or not he'd sign for 8x8 knowing he'd be sent off to Nashville is unclear, of course.

I get what you're saying, but if they're looking to retool and get younger, isn't a 25yr old scoring winger what they'd be interested in?

I'd imagine DeBrincat would want more than $8M, even if he was going to an economically advantageous city like NSH.

It's a moot point though, as NSH declines. Without Saros they're a lottery team, and adding a winger doesn't change that. If Juice gets moved, NSH would be doing a complete teardown. They'd only be interested in futures, in that situation.

A healthy Norris, maturing Greig, Formenton hopefully returning from exile, perhaps Jarventie in the future or even a less expensive UFA can make up for the loss of DeBrincat in the short and longer term (IMO Norris is actually a better sniper on the PP than DeBrincat). The missing piece in Ottawa's set is not a sniper but a #1 goaltender (like Saros, Gibson or Hart) pending the maturation of Sogaard or Merilainen. Better to pay the price and make the deal that completes the set (even if the price is high) than to refuse to pay the price and continue with a roster containing an obvious weak link.

Even with a goalie such as Askarov coming up? I realize he's young and in the AHL so this is a legitimate question for a Preds fan since I genuinely have no idea beyond your standard hype around him.

As talented as Askarov is, he still has a lot of things to work on before he's an NHL goalie. My uneducated guess is that it'll be two more seasons until he's a full time NHLer.
