Flames aren't going to trade their two top centres, a promising winger on a great contract and a top 3 defense man for 3 super low first picks and a second with a fourth. Especially with only a re tool needed, not to set up a complete lawn sale.

Devils do not need Hanifan. Their D is pretty much set for next year. Bahl has been really solid as the second LHD spot behind Siegs, and even sometimes ahead of Siegs. Luke Hughes is 3LHD.

I'm wondering though adding in case Nemec is not ready. A guy like Soucy for size and shutdown.
Bahl, Luke, Nemec, Walsh is a bit green I think if Graves leaves in FA

left side: Siegs Hughes Bahl. That's almost certain. Right side Hamilton Marino, then we need basically a 1 year stopgap to let nemec slide

Ideal world, we get Sevo to extend for one year or get him to sign without NTC protection. But we probably roll with Walsh and cheap vet at 3RD for a year.

Siegs - Hamilton
Hughes - Marino
Bahl - Walsh
Smith -

But if we added a Hanifin or similar player with one year remaining, we could roll…

Siegs - Hamilton
Hanifin - Marino
Bahl - Hughes
Smith -

….would be pretty solid unit.

I really think Walsh should be given every opportunity to earn the 3RHD spot.
6 years out from being drafted he is should be more than ready to be an asset on the Devils bottom pair come October.
Would hate for the Devils to have Walsh claimed on waivers.

Besides, letting Nemec's ELC slide another year will be huge for the team down the line.

We could add, but do you agree it would just be a placeholder rather than a 1st rounder trade?

I also think our playoff run determines a number of things, along with ufa d men landing spots

I can't see getting a UFA that is on the high-end side that would take 1 year.

Term is key to me. If not Nemec doesn't make it next season, the following has to be cleared for him.

I get that you were just looking to see the Cap Space, but I still want to say we’ll get more for all of those players, other than maybe Backlund unless we retain some salary

But like @southwest09 said perfectly, we only need a couple tweaks. We are in no way entering a rebuild, so as much as 1st Round Picks are nice, we need Quality Replacement Players and, either already or soon to be. NHL Ready Prospects in addition to Picks to stay competitive
